IF YOU LIKE MERCENARIES 2
First day on the game. For about 3 hours, I had this really overwhelming sense of nostalgia although this is a newer game. I was reminded of a game called Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. That's right, you all remember the swedish merc with the mohawk who could take over territories for factions. That game is almost identical to this game, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm just glad I caught this game on a 20$ sale because its a nice little throwback to my childhood.

I realized some things that were a lot like Mercenaries 2:
1.) Combat
-accuracy and gunplay
-weapon selection
-person to vehicle combat (robbing vehicles and using them against enemies
-consistent dodging of SAM turrets
-even the way AI dye seems to be similar
2.) Kickassitude
-you always have this feeling like the enemy can't really kill, but merely make you hide behind a wall for 10 seconds to recover
-very simplistic and the most puzzling thing is finding destroyable objects when you take settlements
3.) Story
-you just kind of... show up? and start blowing ♥♥♥♥ up without having any sort of background on the place
4.) Progression and Upgrades
-so when you destroy a settlement, you earn a sort of ''drop'' from the rebel force that you're aiding. this reminded me a lot of the crates you could call in for weapons, grenades, and even helicopters in Mercenaries 2.

The game explains exactly where it is and what the place means to you before you can even start shooting. You need audio or subtitles though

Yah, this is a great game in the gameplay category. With the newer engine, you have the icing on your cupcake - pretty graphics. I guess there are some bugs with using the latest high powered engines across many different user configurations, but that's why it is cutting edge.

The story in JC3 is much better than JC2, IMHO as well,

I never played Mercenaries 2, but a few years ago a friend of mine suggested it to me, so I bought in via Origin, and still haven't touched it. Maybe I should put that on my list.

But anyway, Just Cause 3 reminds me of Just Cause 2, more than anything. The game engine has been updated, and they've added some new features and mechanics, such as the wingsuit, but otherwise it's essentially the same game with a slightly dfferent story. Don't get me wrong though - I really like the game, as my 128 hours in it should prove, but I wish they had made it more different. I mean, I get that the whole point of a JC game is to blow ♥♥♥♥ up, but still, it would have been cool to have something that was a bit more original.

Since an old game was mentioned, I'll do the same: The Saboteur [en.wikipedia.org] also has a lot in common with JC, and it's a hella fun game too. I thought of that one because the friend who recommended Mercenaries 2 to me did so because I was enjoying The Saboteur so much. :D

I tried Merc 2 years ago and didn't like it but I like JC2/3.

I'll take a look at Saboteur vids because I've seen that on sale cheap enough off and on.
