Even without most of them, it's not too hard....Just wait till ya get 3 fan geysers before doing stage upgrades once they're available, upgrade to max n upgrade units ASAP, try and keep a ratio of 1 headbanger/razor/healer to every other unit you spawn with them, and be sure to fight with your units whenever possible, don't forget to do solos.
In fact, if there's one thing you absolutely get first, find as many solos as possible. One lets you spawn a flag that makes newly spawned units run to it, no matter where on the map. One does massive damage to enemies, another spawns animal allies, one calls them all to you no matter where on map, etc. etc....
If you need an idea of army compositions, I typically have 2-3 healing trikes at any time, so even if 1 or 2 die ya still have healing (Dunno if they stack but cant hurt either lol). Beyond that I try to get like 2 or 3 headbangers, 2 groups of razor girls, and beyond that build as you need....having trouble with geysers? Get the amp guys as soon as you unlock them and use em. Struggling with lots of small fry? A few more razor girl/headbanger combo spawns can kill em, or you can go for some of the other options in regards to the 3 real big choices you have that you unlock as u progress through story.
Don't forget to use double attacks. Razor girl's is pretty powerful early on, and hopping on the healing trkes for a quick stun note can quickly turn the tide of battle...its like a 4-6 second stun to all within range, and if u have multiple trikes, thats multiple staggered stacks of stun. And you'd be surprised how quickly and effortlessly things in a RTS die when they don't fight/kill back. At the least, it's a free facemelter and/or rally cry for team damage boost without fear of dying/being hurt trying to do said solos.
Also, don't forget to try and have yourself focused on enemies in this order; enemy commander > fisters or other enemies who focus healing trikes first or enemies attacking said trikes (trikes dont attack themselves only heal and stun with double) > other big enemies especially debuffers > ranged enemies melting your troop > smallfry left over.
It's honestly a very well done part of the game, truth be told....
