Are the driving parts supposed to be THIS hard?
So, I'm still at the beginning of the game (just got to the... Kill master, was it? The spider guy who can real Ophelia, and am about to go get the spider strings he requested). And, up to now, all the driving parts have been so hard, you know? No matter how carefully I try to drive, the car keeps bumping into everything and going off the path I want it to go (the fact that now there are also enemy headbangers in the way just makes things worse). The last time I played a driving game I was still a little kid, so maybe I'm just not used to this (I'm using a Xbox 360 controller, btw).

It seems that, as the game progresses, driving will be an even more important mechanic. I am really liking the music, characters and story of this game (it has just begun, and I already lol'd at so many parts, xD), but I don't know if I'll have the will to keep going when just going from one place to another is so friggin' hard, =/. Do you guys have any tips to help me use the Deuce better or something?

Hard? Driving is pretty easy. The only thing hard would be doing certain races, but simply driving around the world to get around has no difficulty to it.

Driving is pretty easy in this game looks like you just need to improve. There will be other modes of transportation later so don't give up

Yeah, if the car is too much for you, you could always ride a raptor elk :P

I'll admit the driving is a bit... weird, but then again, i haven't got any performance upgrades or anything like that

Edit: I did beat the game a few times (ps3, xbox 360)

The beer keg mission is the only hard part of driving.
But then again that part can be cheesed because the game treats landing hard after jumping off a mountain and hitting a small bump in the road as equal amounts of damage.
So there's a relatively safe shortcut for you to take.

But then again I probably got over my hate towards that mission very fast because there was one game that had much harder missions in that same style and it had FOUR of them in the main story.

take down all key/mouse sensibility to min then driving is lot easier
worked for me

Driving itself it's ok, but driving on a hurry is a pain on the ass.
You may get used it after some free roaming around the world.

The driving for me has been the easiest part of the game so far. I got my duece upgraded with the max engine. So that's probably why. Though even without it,nitrous helps alot

I get what you're saying. Driving is definitely a little wonky with a controller, takes some getting used to b/c the stick is so sensitive. When I started playing, I had the same problems. A little rock on the side of road would send me flying off track and over a cliff. By the end of the game, I won't say it was perfect, but I could handle myself through the turns anyway. You get used to it in time. Not sure if the mouse sensitivity options would change anything for the controller inputs, but you could try it out and see if it helps.

As for enemy headbangers, just run 'em over! In fact, barring larger creatures like the bear trap mouth things, I don't bother trying to avoid critters/people in my path. Friendlies will be OK, enemies and roadkill will be dead. Quest NPCs are immovable, so you need to avoid them, but they're usually not standing in the middle of road anyway.

Yes and no. There are a few driving missions later on, but they aren't really that hard. You can afford to fall behind somewhat if you need to in order to keep control (I was playing on Normal FYI.) There was only one really challenging driving mission IMO (you'll know it when you get to it) but even that one I was able to beat, second try.

The racing quests are hard AF, granted, but they're also optional.

Learn to use the hand brake. Not only does it stop you going off the road unwittingly, but it's useful for making sharp turns at speed.

Learn when to use nitro. It's one of those things you sort of need to feel out for yourself.

Get a decent cowcatcher on the Deuce when they become available at the Motor Forge (the plow on the front of the car.) You don't need the best one or anything, but having it helps you plow through "obstacles" without being stopped cold or thrown off track.

Also guns. Even if they don't kill what's in front of you, they tend to get things moving out of your way. I recommend the machine guns, but personal taste will vary.

machines guns confirmed the best weapon they auto lock and deal more DPS overall enemies don't usually group enough for aoe to be worth it.

Driving does get easier as you go along (however i've beaten this game before so i'm use to the driving mechanics)

My problem is the lag makes it impossible to navigate the towers of pleasure section

all the stupid iron maidens and explosions

Yeah, I didn't notice any lag in that part. The action was hot and heavy, for sure, but not laggy. And my machine is not top of the line by any definition.

Maybe you've got too many other things running in the background while playing the game? (The game is from 2009, so I'm assuming it's not a hardware problem.)

If you've got an nVidia GPU, you might also want to check that it's using the nVidia card for this game. I've noticed on a few Steam games - on a game to game basis - that my machine sometimes defaults to using the integrated graphics chip even though the discrete GPU is there and idle. You should be able to specify "always use nVidia" for this game in the graphic card's settings menu if that's the case.
