Under EU laws, companies generally cannot remove features from software without the user's agreement or offering a refund. This would likely be considered a breach of contract and could be challenged legally.
You don't need to challenge it but you could.
It is probably enough if you just ask for a refund and if they refuse it you can report it to consumer protection organizations in the EU.
No, I'm being real. I don't need jester rewards, I have more than enough points in my Steam account with 4k games.
So you have the options to keep complaining, apply the fix, or challenge the law. You have options, which one is for you?
Steam will likely deny your refund request if you've played like hundred hours of FM2024.
Man, accept the correction. It works and don't get angry about the SI procedure, keep it simple.
They haven't removed a feature, they changed some text.
If FM25 is a buggy mess, I am quite sure it's the end of the company. We will probably see a change in management and even publishers. Just my gut feeling.
But to state the obvious: People who have already played FM24 before december 4th had already bought the game.
So from their (our) point of view SI had two options if i understand it correctly:
1) Remove FM24 from shops but leave licenses as they were - like they did with previous iterations.
2) Do not remove FM24 from shops so you can continue selling an old game full price while removing some stuff from their current player base that said player base would not have lost with option 1).
Option 2) has no advantage for players at all. Want game with option 1)? Buy now or never.
I understand how to change back stuff manually, but what SI did is shady business practice in a very cringe way ("We are so nice, we let you still buy an overpriced FM24 for a few months until you can spend again for an overpriced FM25").
Remark:
@Everyone who wants to buy FM24: Buy it from a trusted key shop. You get it from there for like 15-20€ now.
I even got it for 35€ last year after release. No way someone should even consider buying FM24 full price now.
Comment to all who say FM24 will still be available to play (not buy) after FM25 release.
I would not be so sure. I expect FM25 to sell very poorly, then there will be a huge incentive for them to dry us out.
We shall see if there will be some "oops, problem xyz arose, but we dont have capacities to fix now (ever)".
