I got the same problem. And it must be some graphic bug that makes you don't see the blue glowing. A way around is to make the painting move from the statue that holds it towards another. So circle around the statues in the area that would not make the painting shift to another painting by side flipping. At a moment you will see some faint blue glowing. So now you know which statue has the painting. To be sure to get the painting - as I don't know of the hand icon will appear without this - make the painting shift to another statue by running towards the painting you saw with a faint glowing and get then immediate in the save area. From there you can relocate the glowing painting.
