If you mean how she bends her knees to give herself enough upward force to lift from the ground like every human being, then it's normal, lol.
It's not like in other games like Skyrim where you jump and your character magically defies gravity instantly.

Doing a running jump will need running space of 1 "block" and you won't jump anytime sooner.
Go to the ledge, hop backwards, do a running jump by running then holding jump. It's as easy as that. If you can't figure it out and master it and find it "godawful" then it's a PEBCAK issue.

I would have never played this entire game with a ps1 controller with "save crystals".
There's not even a good OST,
just wind and a nostalgic eerrie feeling of being watched.

Tomb Raider II is where it's at.
You've already reached Midas which is pretty good. Give it more time and you'll master the controls and start enjoying the puzzles.
If you had two anchor-sized polygons on your chest, you'd probably have trouble getting off the ground too.
