First try the comp mode in XP SP2 or anything else, try to run it in Admin mode.
Google for dgvodoo and download it. Also check for "Various patches" -> "Winplay DLL" and copy it into the folder.
If that doesn't work you can download the latest Soul Reaver 1 patch (thelostworlds.net if you google).
You can also try out different resolutions or driver options in the first window.
If it still doesn't work then I don't know either, that's all I tried iirc.
I finally got it to work. Basically I need to select 32 colour - not default 16! Now next issue is I want to play a window rather than full screen.
Now doesn't work again. I loaded my game. Went through the first portal and shifted into the material realm to run down the pathway to open the door. Round the last corner of the path the game crashes and returns to the desktop. I feel like buying an old PS One just to play this game again - I own the game but my PS died over a decade ago Dx
I remember borrowing it years ago from a friend. When they moved I gave it back before I could finish it. A few years later, a neighbor gave me their copy, I was stoked! But then it was badly scratched and the play station couldn't read it. Six months passed and I got one of those disc doctors. I raced home to test it out. As I pulled the disc from the case the f!@r snapped in half. My (at the time) teenage heart shattered, I was so upset. flash forward many years to today and I find out it's on Steam. F@#k yes, I thought... but as I am coming to find...this version is also f@#king cursed.
I too, am failing to get past the creator names.... $7 to be endlessly laughed at...f@#k me. If you guys get any luck, do share your secret. Kain has slipped through our three claws for far too long!
I can verify this. The same workaround fixed the thing for me.
Right click kain2.exe (under steam/steampps/common/legacy of kain soul reaver), go to properties, compatibility tab, run in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3, select OK.
In same folder, right click BinkPlay.exe and run as administrator. Close the player window when it opens.
Right click kain2.exe, select run as administrator.
When the launch options pop up, leave everything on defaults. It can all be changed in-game.
Click OK.
Play game.
Every time a video plays, the game will jump and the desktop may be visible for a half second. This is the game using the bink player that you opened before starting the game in a new window. It happens EVERY time.
2. Right click on kain2 and go to properties
3. Choose to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows xp and apply and ok.
4. Now you dont want to run the game in steam but run the game only from kain2 (
5. Now you should be able to play the game
