I'm not sure if everyones been having these problems but its definately frustrating.
As we have said before: we really encourage people to buy Clockwork Empires when they feel comfortable doing so. It might be now, it might be after a couple of patches, it might be when we get out of Early Access, but ultimately it's your call.
In other news: I missed the Stomping Land situation. What happened there?
Basically it hasn't been updated for 2 months and not much communications with the devs so people are panicing
What people dont realize is Fishmen are more dangerous than dinosaurs. And that Diggles are more dangerous than Fishmen!
The game has potential, but one of the potentials is to end up as 'scam'.
No, the Stomping Land is a scam. Just because in your fairy-tale world of high school where no one can be a con-artist doesn't mean that it doesn't happen in the real world. Hell, it just happened RECENTLY with Earth 2066 or w/e it was called.
Stomping Land creater essentially took our money and ran. His devs don't get information from him, they just have their contracts expire. The community doesn't hear from him. He posted one reply to someone that asked for an interveiw, claiming that he was moving the game to Unreal 4, after two months of straight silence and no updates. Seems like a pretty convient excuse, as in, a stalling tactic. Nothing more. Note: He went back into immediate silence and disappeared for another month (and counting).

It was a straight up cut and run. And these things happen in the real world. There are shadey people that con little old ladies, children, mental patients, why would anyone ever think that gamers with disposable income are suddenly immune to scam artists? The only answer is they are too young to know better (High school/junior high) or exceedingly guillible/ignorant. There is no inbetween.
EDIT: I lied, there is a third group: Trolls. Trolls that just want a rise out of people or attention in general will defend anything on the internet, no matter how blatent.
I really do wish I knew some of these white knights for Stomping Land in real life though. I'd con them out of their lunch money everyday from 7th grade onward, promising them a brand new corvette when they graduate high school. Using their logic, they'd have to defend me as a credible person that will get them that car even when they are well into their 40's. Because no one ever could possibly scam them.
Don't Starve had a mostly functional beta for much of their Early Access, whereas YogVentures got through both Kickstarter and the very first batch of Greenlights, only to fall prey to mismanagement.
I trust Gaslamp Games to get Clockwork Empires done, for numerous reasons. I'm also fascinated by the Dev process, which Gaslamp Games is making very transparent. They've repeatedly demonstrated a commitment to communicating with us Early Access-folk, and issues we bring up are addressed directly. Sometimes patches drop the same week a new issue pops up.
The Devs encourage folks to purchase Clockwork Empires only when they feel comfortable doing so - often going so far as to advise folks to wait for release; early purchases are not discounted
They've demonstrated an ability to finish a well-received game (Dredmor). I've been reading their development blog for 9 months - it's a ripping read, and it all jibes with what I know about game development (which is, admittedly, only tangential, but it's been fascinating, and illuminating, for all that).
All that said, the game's not done, it's missing a wide swath of stuff. If all you want is a finished game, it's not there yet; I like seeing the cake bake, but if you don't care about that stuff, wait until the frosting's on.
If you don't get it... don't get it.
The track record of the developers is all you can go in.
Personally I wish people who don't understand what EA is just didn't get involved in it.
That way 2 good things happen.
1) Lot's of QQing trolls who expect a full game in the first 60 days of buying don't buy it. Therefore saving them their cash and the forum mods the grief of dealing with their incessant whinging and...
2) Scam developers (which these are not) will get a lot less cash until they are established and trusted.
This is a genuine lat Alpha - the way Alpha's really were before companies like Activision and Electronic Arts decided that a complete game just requiring a multiplayer stress test was a "BETA" - making people think they were getting something special for their pre-order cash.
So - this is an Alpha EA. It has a ton of work left to do and will likely be a year before release. The developer has a great track record. No one makes you buy early access.
I get them because there are certain game I want to play that might not otherwise be made.
A look at my profile will show you I have invested iun maybe 40 EA and Greenlight games, and that;'s not counting none steam games like Factorio, Rimworld, Stonehearth, Starship Corporation that I have outside Steam.
Not had a single "scam" as yet. The nearest would have been Towns - but considering how cheap it was and how much I played it - even that's being harsh from my POV.
