2026 Dev Update: Hotfix and bug list, development news

New Build, Bigger Boom

Our first objective in the new year was to target a long list of minor and major bugs while optimizing performance in the current F2P build on Steam. One focus was making sure players had a better experience on Steam Deck with quicker access to the tool driven dig and discover gameplay we continue to develop.

This month our dev trio began work on a new Unreal Engine 5.7 build. We will make an announcement in late March about what this means for Wild Americas.

GeoCorp's Pathfinder division will be expanding in late 2026, with ample contracting opportunities for you and friends. Its always better going into dark holes with a friend.

The Comic

Wild Americas Comic #3 nears completion. Amazing work with our friends at GhostJack Ent. Obrigado!

This will release and be packaged with comic #1 #2, in a hardcover LE print (100+ pages), available closer to release of our new build, late 2026.

How to heal

Hi all. Not sure if other PC players are having this issue but I cannot use a bandage on myself and I've tried every button and mouse. Q brings up a mini menu that lets me select "bandage" which then appears in my characters right hand. What next? I've tried using CTRL to "free" my mouse but I cannot select myself or anything for that matter. Maybe I'm missing something but I can't figure this out. Thanks in advance.

Operations Update:

A big shoutout to our players for diving into the 1.0 build on Steam and Epic—your notes and comments are as valuable as the REE's deep below Mountain Island. We've crunched the feedback and are zeroing in on key pain points to polish the experience.

Targeted Hotfixes (Rolling Out End of January 2026): We're deploying a focused patch to address immediate usability and stability issues without overhauling core systems. Expect these refinements:

Controller Optimization: Full glyph alignment for actions like picking up items, smoother analog aiming and movement (including toggle options for directional controls), hidden mouse cursor in controller mode, and reliable interactions (e.g., concrete slab at Station 117). Navigation fixes for crafting screens and pause menus to eliminate jank.
UI and Popup Enhancements: Consistent popup behavior across platforms (Steam Deck vs. PC/Epic), reduced stalling on openings/closures, extended display times for dialogs to allow full reading, and clearer hints (e.g., floating text for mineral pickups on all versions). We'll also sync info screens to point to unified resources, add desktop shortcut icons, and resolve overwhelming early-game text dumps.
Quest and Progression Tweaks: Improved detection for completions (e.g., Geo-Sat proximity without stalls), accurate quest log updates (e.g., Station 117 code pickup), and timed popups to avoid spoilers or redundancies (e.g., Data Recovery after Gear Shack exploration). Typos in dialogs like "Explore Station 117" will be corrected.
Performance and Feedback Polish: Boosted frame rates on Steam Deck, consistent audio (no stalls), added visual/audio cues for damage and tool usage (e.g., M.O.L.E. reload clarified from 0/∞ HUD), fixed bow animations/arm clipping, and exploit patches (e.g., barrel explosions clipping onto Geo-Sat, zipline death falls).
General Stability: Camera clipping fixes during rotation, better med kit/bandage usage tutorials, and pathfinding aids for elements like the Powder Cave trail to Free Shoonya.

Team Expansion:

Upsetter Studios has expanded the Wild Americas team with two strategic hires for the Q4 2026 release. Our 3D modeler is tasked with creating dozens of custom assets for the new build, delivering formidable enemies like Barad-1 drone swarms and H.A.K. units, as well as key infrastructure such as silos, extractors, and GeoCorp machinery. Complementing this, the senior gameplay designer will concentrate on RTS mechanics, base defense strategies, enemy behaviors, weapon systems, and escalation during extraction events to heighten tactical engagement against human and drone threats.

The new SD-1 "Skipper":

Updates to the SD-1 will feature offensive and new destructive capabilities. New materials and tech allow for the SD-1 to perform advanced he-3 detection and more.

Up Next

The 2.0 team will expand our brand of terrain destruction, polishing and implementing gameplay features while adding new systems and mechanic's over the next year.

The current free to play build on Steam will be receiving updates through 2025. We are aware of performance issues on less powerful PC's and other QA related bugs. Hotfixes will continue.

Project Roadmap

We are currently expanding our developtment team preparing for the work ahead. Expect a detailed Project Roadmap by December.

PlayStation Port

As a PlayStation Indie Program selection, our work towards a build worthy of port to the last king of consoles is targeted for Q4, 2026.

Steam Deck Optimization

Any suggestions on how to make this more playable on the steam deck? Or is there a way to force the game to be 1280x800 resolution in the launch parameters?

I am puzzled...and thrilled.

So I think I really like this game, but I need to have some way to save manually or be able to re-trigger save events. I am having to run half way across the map because I did things in a messed up order. AND I die a lot due to laser ball drones. I also find that my character is rag dolling and not getting back up sometimes, or falling through a level. I end up having to reload...which seems tedious. I cannot wait to see more additions from the dev. This is fun....

Video Settings not working.

I've only taken a few steps in the game, but the Video Settings (Windowed Mode, Resolution, Texture Quality [maybe this one works, I didn't check enough]) do not function. If I change them and close the menu nothing happens. If I then restart the game, the settings appear as they did at first run (resolution goes back to 4K rather than what I changed it to). The default listed resolution is 4K, so I presume that is what the game is trying to render, and I'm unwilling to play further at that GPU cost....

Will there be the option to change key binds? If there is one already I didn't see it in game but I am also an old man with bifocals. Thank you.
