My Bronze Sword became Legendary
During a fight I recieved a message "a bronze became legendary" and the quality changed to legendary. Anyone know the mechanic behind this?

As far as i can tell there is a random chance that a weapon or piece of armor will become legendary when used successfully (Landing a hit, taking a hit, etc). I have an arsenal of legendary weapons from my dual wielding guards. Also 1 or 2 peices of armor.
I recall it as being dependent on the number of kills made with the weapon. This makes weaponsmith skill largely irrelevant when crafting as you'll get the best quality eventually.

Every item in the game has a quality rating, including Weapons and armor. The rating affects how much the item is worth, and in the case of Weapons and Armor, how strong they are.

Weapons can always become legendary after making so many kills, so yes, you can make poorly crafted weapons and they will still have the chance to become perfect, by gaining many kills. Armor on the other hand I have never seen become legendary through battle, and as far as I know, is stuck at the level of craftmanship that it is created at.

I once got the copper sword you start with, to legendary, I don't remember its name, and then later I got a legendary Malachite helmet, which just made my gnome OP, until one of my gnomes decided to kill him by crushing his skull with a mechanical wall

Pretty sure Armor does not become Legendary through battle, only by being crafted as a Legendary piece. Shields count as Weapons, not Armor, just in case anyone gets confused.

I think "Legendary" quality gives a 1.9X damage multiplier too, which is very nice! I don't know about armor, but I would assume it gets a multiplier on defense as well.

Both armor and weapons get around 1.8x multiplier, basically making them equal to the next tier of metal they could be made out of (or just simply really good steel).

Weapons do more damage, which means they have a higher chance to crack through armor and slice off entire limbs and deal more damage to organs.

Armor essentially is your Health Bar, and Legendary Armor gives your Gnomes more Health.

Nope.

One of my gnomes got a legendary gauntlet in combat. Yes you could say you can get this through unarmed combat. Well he is always carrying a sword and shield and as far as i'm aware he didn't drop either and revert to punching.

The more it's used in a fight, the more likely it'll become legendary.

This includes improvised weapons(Dirt, logs, wheelbarrows, beds, etc).

Fear the legendary wheelbarrow.
