Launch in Safe Mode
Hi,

We've added a new launch option in the game "Launch in Safe Mode".
This is for players who has a start up crash related to their graphic card.

This mode will launch the game without checking the GPU and will be in 1280x720 windowed mode. It's the same as -SKIPGPUCHECK -windowed -w 1280 -h 720.

Is there a launch option we can set to always launch in either normal mode or safe mode so we don't have that extra click to select it each time we start the game?

Still crashes at startup.

wow...my game is now crashing at the part were the girl goes to the cutscene where she says "your too big" at the start then moves the luggage cart so you can get to the balcony above. But, just before that pacific cutscene starts.

Hi n/a - I'm sorry its still not working. I've added you as a friend so that I can help directly troubleshoot the problem. I'd like to exchange a potential patch with you directly, and access dump files that should have been generated in your steam folder.
Still crashing at the splash screen for me :c preordered this game and I've still never even seen the ingame start menu

I ran http://www.revouninstaller.com/ and uninstalled Physx and cleaned all the leftovers.
Rebooted and now the game works. No physx installed.
but then what if you play a game that requires physx

Reinstall it. Either contrast dont use it properly or the instalition was messed up, i dont know.
But it needed some cleaning apparently.
Just try and uninstall it and run the game.

Hey Chili - did you try removing physx - see n/a's post #6 above?

This issue is caused by physx having really weird compatibility issues from time to time. It used to be that installing Dishonoured before installing Contrast would break Contrast - it took us FOREVER to figure out why it was happening, because having installed a previous game is not usually the reason why your game crashes. And it only happened with Dishonoured. It was super weird.

So, if you guys are still having crashes while starting in safe mode, please try removing physx on your system and reinstalling Contrast.

It's the same thing as with Afterfall Insanity: some kind of version mismatch of PhysXcore.dll used by the game and being distributed with later versions of PhysX. Both games use 2.8.4.4 from one of the latin-character folders in C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Engine (for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Engine\82D8704BAB07). There should be a total of 7 such folders usually. To make it work without installing-reinstalling and whatever you can backup the mentioned folders C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Engine, then take .\common\Contrast\Binaries\Win32\PhysXCore.dll and copy (with replace) to those folders. If you want to bother much you can do that one-by-one to figure out the exact folder in which to put the "correct" .dll. Note, that this will be required after each PhysX update. Not sure if this can be fixed by updating the game somehow, but if it's possible, everyone will appreciate a patch for this. So far I know only 2 games with such an issue...

Mine too. I'm trying to read through all of the suggested solutions in this forum, but a lot of them don't seem relevant to my set-up. For example, uninstalling PhysX seems popular but I don't actually have that installed in the first place. I'm really sad, because I've been looking forwards to trying this game and so grabbed it in the specials and... yeah. It won't even start. No error messages or anything, just nada.

I'm trying re-installing it and, fingers-crossed, maybe that will do something... :(

If you can read the post before yours you could find a solution without reinstalling...

I couldn't even find PhysX on my computer until now because I didn't realise it was hidden inside a Nvidia folder on the other Program Files part. I'll get someone who knows more about this stuff to look into it for me - thanks for the help.

We tried this - my partner actually knows what they he is doing, unlike me - to no avail. It still won't work. Such a shame, since I've never had problems with a Steam game before.
