Can I get a levelheaded explanation of this controversial translator?

First of all if shes even confirmed to be working on RF3S, Im not clear on this and Im not really sure why they would pay to have someone retransalate a massive amount of text when an english translation already exists. But if so, or if the existing translation gets tweaked, what kind of content theyve changed or censored and for what reasons.

Ive seen this concern mentioned a lot online including on here but not really any specifics and it seems to usually be by guys who talk out of one side of their mouth about puritan censorship of sexual content and then out of the other side of their mouth about degenerate gays and feminists eroding traditional conservative values which is a completely nonsensical incoherent position so Im left with no real idea about what this person is actually likely to censor and why

I did a run of rune factory 3 last year before RF3S was announced where I did the entire romance line for all 11 bachelorettes before getting married and there was indeed some sexual and fetish content that must have just not gotten disclosed to the ESRB, and I thought it was really cool and would like it to stay in. But I didnt feel that any of the women were treated as sex objects or fetishized in a way that I felt was problematic, it was stuff like Sakuya has a couple requests where she straight up doms Micah in some way and Sofia (who says the opposite of what she means) has a line at max love level along the lines of "I want to tie you up in the woods and leave you for the monsters to have their way with you" (lol.)

The only thing that made me uncomfortable was Marians interactions with Colette (Marians whole thing is nonconsensual medical sadism) but that would be impossible to change without completely redoing Marians request line, not just changing text but completely redoing all of her cutscenes.

Anyway I would be very disappointed to see this game sanitized, but Im not sure how likely any sort of retranslation is at all and if there will be one if this controversial translator just blanket targets anything sexual or if her approach is more nuanced

I played the game for 6 years straight as a kid/teen, i kept one savefile as my main, and the other i used it to date the other girls, I did not find anything sexual at all, the game was very child friendly even when you ask your spouse for kids, they just pop up back to back one day after a brief talk. Thats it, i understand what your saying though, Society this day and age want a LOT more things to be censored because it oppresses women, or some race, sexism, racism, feminism, all having an effect of this current era and its honestly sick how it changes everything, did you know Snow White the remakes actress is a latina? idk if anyone remembers, but Snow White was named SNOW WHITE, because of "Her beautiful skin, pale as snow", And in the little mermaids remake, the problem isnt that its a black actress, the problem is that they changed the entire story and made prince eric a woosy. Both Ariel and Eric defeated Ursula together, and in the remake instead of being a great movie from when we were kids remade into a better life action one, it got watered down and shat on. Why fix perfection?, and with that in mind, a lot of games being released these past years have been over hyped and ended in failure or a severe drop in popularity just after release, i sure hope they dont touch MY FAVORITE GAME, and let it be the best it already was, just a PC version thats all i want... And if they do mess it up i sure hope we as the community can somehow coax them to fix it... They havent fixed 4 and 5 yet so i assume they wouldnt listen anyways, but im remaining hopeful. P.S. Anyone grew up with the Dark Cloud games? they are my other favorite game!

I definitely remember a sexual innuendo with Pia. Like "MC showed me his thing" I don't remember the exact quote, and I think there was another line right after. Might have been something like "small and cute" lol

Yeah. I think that's the extent of the sexual innuendos in RF3. I recall that as well (and I ending up laughing and snorting in study hall, ooop-)

I did use autocorrectors and such, sadly I can't correct something i am not able to tell is wrong, offensive (as no offense is intented) , or is NOT making clear what i try to comunicate. Funny enough, any irritation you get from me using the wrong term, will make you understand how others well when they read "politically corrected" translation

Moments were people get irritated and upset because of translation happen in situations like: character in original Japanese, including clearly hearing via voice actor, uses terms that imply gender. Than the english localization replace, however they can, with gender neutral terms, losing the value and similar. A good exemple is utawarerumono where a very rigit, very closed minded, very unreasonable old man implied that woman need to be in kitchen and not battle field. Anyone who has a bit of an understatement realises this is yet another exemple of how closed minded said character is. However in the steam version it was "re translated" because it was a sexist person being sexist needs to be censored despite very beautifully serving as a negative exemples how bad it is to be and have sexist believes. I say steam version because the PlayStation and such version did not succumb to such "political correction" (no clue if they were "updated" as this is just an exemple)

And of course, the translator and dev give answer that either change the subject or not address the issue at all.

Anything implying sex, perversion, bully and more are even more cruelly treated. The best exemples are from light novel "classroom of elite" & "joblessness reincarnation" who were so bad (including removing chunks of text) that the publishers needed to correct the translation due to massive backslash from fans.

There are some anime, who despite not having any nudity or sex, have a fan made uncensored version where words with gender (via subtitle) and images are respecting the original version (aka no alterations)

There are many people who, read for years fan translated visual novels and light novels, years later are very happy that said series and more have now an official English release.... And now many of them went back to fan translation (thoes who can read Japanese obviously read the original Japanese version)

Just like how a trans person feels offended if they are called he or she when thir pronation is they, many fans lose interest, not in te series, but the version translated by thoes who use "they" (any gender neutral terms) despite a "NON-neutral gender" term was used. And of course, anytime said people express dissatisfaction with the poor translation, are labeled transphob or banned (or similar) and no further progress is made, especially since many avoids even bringing up this subject since they don't wish to lose thir accounts... Especial since everything they posted or written were deleted as well

I hope this clarifies 1. why so many people are on the age around this subject. 2. Only people emotionally triggered are talking about this subject (of course with irritation and hate, since they are upset) while 3. Many refuses to even open this subject due to risk of ban or online harassments via DM or similar

All I gotta say for someone who's been playing the very first Rune Factory to RF5 and even the Wii versions is, who cares what people think, it's a good game, if there's sexual intentions, it's just a game it's not like it's real people being affected, just fantasy characters. If people get offended then good for them for getting offended that has no correlation to who they are as a person. Otherwise don't let those people knock you down from thinking about enjoying this game or any in the Rune Factory series, because honestly it's been one hell of a ride and seeing the reveal of Rune Factory 5 and Rune Factory 4 Special (Which I got the switch just for that game mainly) and now Rune Factory 3 Special, I just gotta say it's been a blast and hopefully they continue doing what they have been doing since Rune Factory 4 Special.
