Missing textures, animations and all around messed up visuals

I recently got this game after a friend told me about it, it ran fine for the first week or so when one day I tabbed out of the game to type something on discord and when I got back on my game, my screen was completely black. I searched the internet for a fix when someone said to "Type in launch options -dxlevel 9". So I did that, the game screen wasn't black. I tried entering a server but before I could even do that I noticed something weird off the bat. When I opened the server browser the background menu disappeared. Thinking it was something I hadn't noticed before I joined a server on the map nmo_chinatown. I was horrified to discover I had tons and tons of missing textures. I was missing window textures, water textures metal textures. I could barely see the glow on items when picking them up. Some zombie animations we're missing (T-Pose). When I hit a zombie with my melee weapon, the weapon itself would turn invisible and my player's arm would turn completely red, the only part of the weapon I could see was the blood stains on it. The game is still playable and all but I can't stand these missing textures and want to understand where I went wrong. Please help!

Re-installing the game
Verifying game files
Trying various -dxlevel# bootup settings
Changing in game options

dxlevel should be 98 -- any other value is unsupported in NMRiH.

I'm using dxlevel 98 now but I'm getting the black screen problem again

Details on the problem: The game is clearly running, if I move my mouse around I can hear the sounds of buttons and the menu music, but the game window is completely black. It dosen't turn black right away either, when the menu is loading I can see the loading screen, and for a brief second when it's finished loading I can see the menu, but then it's suddenly black.

Okay it looks you are running into two separate issues. The first, which you said in OP, is missing textures/other weirdness. That is simply because of DirectX level issues. And the second, which you you said in a follow up reply, is the black screen on title screen -- which is a known issue we're investigating.

1. Go to the cfg directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\nmrih\nmrih\cfg)
2. Delete config.cfg
3. Clear all launch options from the game
4. Start the game and check the DirectX level in Video advanced, it should be set to 9.0+ (screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/TdLpWu8.png)

--Steps if DirectX level is not 9.0+--
5. If the DirectX level is incorrect, close the game
6. In launch options, put -dxlevel 95
7. Start the game, let it load, then close it and remove the launch options.
8. Start the game with no launch options again and check DirectX level as above.

If you are getting the black title screen issue -- we are investigating it. In the mean time the game should work if you connect to a server from steam. Picture guide:

Thanks, everything seems fine now, just have 2 more mostly minor problems.

1. When in water my screen is covered with the missing texture icon and
2. When joining a server the menu music continues playing and does not stop

Problem 1 can make some maps impossible. Problem 2 is just a minor annoyance

Edit:
Yesterday after following steps 1 to 4 my game worked properly, but today I booted it up again, had a black screen, went into cfg and deleted that folder then booted up again and it still didn't work

We dont have a fix for the black title screen issue so far - you'll need to use the workaround in the picture guide of my previous post.

1 only happens on the origanal dead labs map during the sewer part, and 2 no longer happens for me
