I think it adds to the difficulty and I find the suspense intoxicating, once my screen starts to black out and a quick last minute fruitless scramble to find more pills, I toss all my items to the remaining survivors and ask them to kill me or take a melee weapon to the horde and hack a path for my teammates so they can escape before I turn.
If pills instantly cured the disease, then the zombie apocolypse would have never happened.
The machete doesn't need an nerf. None of the weapons need a nerf, really; they all have drawbacks that are readily apparent when you try to push them beyond reasonable limits.
Infection exists and has the probability values it has because:
A) it fits the lore of the game
B) it maintains difficulty, even for highly seasoned veterans who would normally blaze through a similar game without it
The hard fact of the matter is that very good players are capable of speedrunning objective maps without being touched at all; they are the ones who typically achieve Pacifist and They Used to Be People, because they simply do not need to melee (and thus risk infection) to complete their objectives.
Infection generally happens when you get penned in by zombies and get tagged on the way out (i.e you've escaped but are at low enough health to be easily infected, or were being bitten and escaped). If your health is above 70-80, your risk of infection is fairly low. As you dip under 60, your risk of infection increases exponentially, to the point that it is extremely lucky to NOT get infected upon a scratch or bite by the time you hit 40 health.
If you do not want to be infected, keep a gun on you. Ranged attacks made from over 5 feet away have zero risk of infection, so you can use your melee for stragglers that you can easily charge-attack and then switch to your gun for when you're penned in to make a breach to escape through.
And also no,the machete is balanced, and the sledge is good enough, that thing is a one hit kill why would it need a buff?
Thats total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
