In my opinion there's nothing wrong with being greedy or renegade, as long as one keeps it "within the game," so to speak, and doesn't go around just taking everything or killing everyone while being stone-faced silent.
But of course there are people like that, and then there are people who do things like hold objective objects hostage...
For starters it's a co op game. So if a kid is playing for himself, I kind of have an issue with that.
Hoarding items, excessive ammo types, ect only hurts the experience of the people you're playing with. That's the real point I'm trying to make.
I'd like to see more servers have the option to vote-to-kick let alone more servers with FF enabled. When I see a dude die and they drop 3x different types of ammo and whatever weapons, I think "wow, what a greedy brat. Why's he playing w/ the rest of us when he's playing for himself?"
To say that anti-team behaviors should be outlawed is to outlaw part of the philosophy of the game.
I understand. I need to find this. I'm just so used to playing other games where kids play for themselves or just being counter productive that I didn't want to see it here
As such some players might find it to their benefit to play with their team, and some players may not.
While I assume you're probably a bit jarated about the players who would do that, you're also jarated about players who just grab up things and kill players for no good reason (or holding objectives hostage), and I also believe that we should have some way of dealing with them, but another issue is that people may vote people off who are playing in the spirit of the game and for themselves, but against their team.
The most optimal solution is good moderation of the servers by their owners, but it's also an impractical one. The complexities of this game make it hard to pin down a solution to people trolling that also won't impact those who jarate off their teammates, but so they can live to see another day.
edit: piss and prick are both very stupid censors
Let's say that there was a player who wanted to work with his team, but was infected and did not want to risk alienating his team by asking for pills, so he kills the lone player he is with and takes the pills and then continues working with his team to reach the extraction point.
Should said player create his own server and just play with himself?
Also, I agree with Souzooka because No More Room in Hell has something that no other game like Left 4 Dead has: the extreme freedom of gameplay.
Everyone can play according to a style that appeals to them, like being a team leader who guides and helps players in difficulty or being the trusted teammate who tries to cooperate and help the others or playing the part of the classic piece of poop that greedly takes everything he finds and goes on ignoring his team, convinced that he can complete the game by himself.
However, all those who choose this last role are at 90% the favorite targets of karma (you have no idea how many times I happened to find these greedy players who even come to blame the whole team and the game itself when they realize to make a bad end!! What a pleasure!! XD)
The game is structured in such a way that it has to put you under pressure and even if you are good sooner or later the misfortune comes to you anyway.
The best way to handle this kind of people is to simply ignore them or use them to go on without doing almost anything.
So, in my opinion, the Call Vote should be eanbled on every server and used not so much to kick these uncooperative players but rather the annoying trollers or those who do everything to prevent the completion of the game like blocking the entire team behind a door, stealing and unloading the weapons so that no one can use them, destroying the barricades or (the most common and most frequent case) teamkilling.
For example, lately I am having problems with an "anonymous player" (his account is private https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198850251624 ) that I recognize almost immediately both because of his way of trolling and because every time I report him I find out I have already done it (unfortunately he keeps changing his name.)
He always does this in every match and unfortunately there is no way to kick him since the Call Vote doesn't work.
The only solution is to convince the other teammates to report him immediately on Steam in the hope that he will be VAC-banned.
So, I think that uncooperative players are a minor problem compared to that of trollers and players who spoil your fun even going so far as to insult you and your family without a valid reason, all this just because they are so depressed that they can enjoy only by making you suffer.
Additionally, native callvotes are configurable via server commands:
This allows server owners to configure them to their liking, like turning them off to use a custom Sourcemod kickvote plugin instead. Forcing callvotes on all servers it's not a good idea at all, since it restricts the choices that server ops have when customizing their servers, and also, callvotes can be abused to kick non-trollish players. It's a double-edged sword, that's why having the choice to use it or not is a good thing.
