I want to change the in-game music that plays.

No, I am not trying to extract it and send it. I want to change the game music because I don't enjoy the mood it gives.
Where should I search to change them? I can't find their files anywhere.

I'd assume they're inside the .vpk files due to Steampipe, since due to optimization issues direct game files are no longer individually placed inside folders. You'll have to make up .cfg files that point to your modded files in order to change anything, I'm guessing.

Keyword is files.

Download GCFScape (Google it)>install MAKE SURE FILE ASSOCIATION VPK BOX IS CHECKED
> double click on nmrih_dir.vpk in nmrih/nmrih
> go to sound/music folder in the vpk
> find the names of the songs you want to replace
> go to nmrih/sdk/hl2mp/custom/[create new folder, name it whatever] / [new folder]sound / [new folder]music
> name your custom music files the same name as the ones you are replacing and place them in the newly created music folder.

I've been trying to do this as well, but haven't been able to get it working. I mostly want to be able to play this soundtrack [tonightofthelivingdead.com] while soloing the NOTLD level.

If it makes you feel better I really enjoy the atmosphere given by the current soundtrack. The game would feel painfully empty without the sound director.

Though finding out how to change it would allow for some interesting brews...

Yeah, I don't want to give the devs any impression that there's any musical deficiency in NMRIH. Not at all. It's just that, in my case, I have this chunk of music that is actually remixed sounds and music directly out of the NOTLD film that really is fun to listen to during my many many failed solo attempts at the NOTLD map.

Really wish this map didn't still have flippin' snow on it! Doesn't feel nearly as authentic (like the movie) anymore. :(
