Flashlight aiming
While I know you guys are working on different content currently, It'd be nice to take a look at how the flashlight is being held.

If you have a pistol, you can light the way for other players. On the other hand, if you have a melee weapon and flashlight out, you're only shining the ground for other players. I know it kind of just attaches to your other hand when you use it, but it will be nice to have a separate animation for the flashlight arm so it aims forward. Obviously, the handguns are alright since the flashlight is under the gun pointing forward.

My suggestion is to make flashlight be held in a way that it aims where you're looking at to help people who have two handed weapons or don't have a flashlight on them. Atleast implement this in NMRiH 2.

Bump. Don't let it sink. It would be really sweet if this problem can be fixed. :steamhappy:

Unfortunately it cannot be fixed, since there is no third person animator available that can modify them. Luckily, this can be avoided by one of the players in the team equipping the maglite by itself or with a handgun.

But they fixed it with pistols in a previous patch. It used to be not aligned even with pistols. :steamsad:

Like I said, they don't have animators that can modify third person animations. Unless they hire one, which is unlikely at this point, it won't be properly fixed. It can maybe be fixed via code with a very ghetto solution, but it would probably look horrible.

In previous updates, the game had a full dev team, programmers, animators, mappers, etc. Now, it has been reduced to a single programmer and a few mappers, since most efforts are going into NMRiH 2. Still, it's very kind of them that they care about the first installment and managed to hire a programmer that fixed a huge amount of bugs and made the 1.10 update possible, improving many many things in the game.

That's sad. I only wish they had fixed it not only with pistols, but also with one-handed melee as well in that patch. :steamsad:

*bunp* let the devs know
oh wait

yeah this is something I'd like to fix but I dunno how likely it is right now. We'll look into how easy a fix this can be.

Mom, can I make a post for an issue but not expect a promising response?

I don't get it, using melee and flash I can light the way forward from my POV

Okay, try this:
Start up a listen server with northway.
Turn on cheats (sv_cheats 1) and disable AI (ai_disable)
Grab a flashlight and one-hand melee weapon.
Type 'thirdperson' in the console.
Use the flashlight key.
Toggle between 'thirdperson' and 'firstperson'.

Notice that for almost all of the one-hand melee weapons, the flashlight in your left hand is pointing about 45 degrees towards the ground, regardless of where you're looking. The only exception is the cleaver, and that's pointing 45 degrees above where you're looking in thirdperson. That's what everyone else sees when you use the flashlight with one-hand melee.
