Without building unlocks and additional perks you'll have a hard time on the later maps.
Getting to the point:
I get that the game is still in early access and it's a small dev team, so that is why I wanted to give feedback to them. The option for an easy/medium/hard for every level could solve the issue and is not too hard to implement. This is not the first post about the unexpected difficulty of the game, as it is not advertized like a difficult one.
Difficulty in a game is fine, mind you, but the point is that it needs a smooth learning curve. Between the first 5 levels of a game there cant be such a spike. If you need to do the optional challenges and retry the first two or three maps to get the unlocks and beat the 4th, 5th or 6th maps, there is a problem in your game regarding the difficulty curve. Not every player does the optional challenges and it shouldnt be mandatory if its optional.
Just my two cents.
Seems like every game forum nowadays is mostly sperglord adolescents just desperate to trash talk anyone with a different opinion from theirs, let alone anyone with a request to make something easier.
If you just want to progress to future levels, there is a mutator that makes the enemies weaker, you can use that. I don't think the devs should add any difficulty settings other than that. The whole point of mutators is to adjust the difficulty, and reward the player for taking on a challenge.
Thats the key to succed in the game, you have tu build your economy first then watch for what the best for the next wave.
Yeah difficulty options aren't bad though and if anything games like Palworld and Sea of Stars show it's fine to allow the player to fine tune the difficulty for whichever players needs. It doesn't compromise anything outside of bragging points for this if the developer of this game thinks its better to side with the elitism rather than accessibility that's on them.
This is similar story to They Are Billions where the Steam forums were extremely toxic about the game's difficulty.
With the difficulty of some of the later quests I'd actually like a look at the numbers behind the words. Is damage reduction percentage based or flat, how much tougher are elite enemies, how much damage do knights do comparison to berserks and flails, things like that.
The early levels don't feel like they need that, modifying up the boss on Frostsee definitely feel like it's necessary.
Edit: Somehow if forgot the link to the guide
