The difficulty is too vertical
I bought Thronefall after liking the first level on the demo and the charm the game has, but the difficulty seems kinda out of whack, devs.

I expected some chill game like Kingdom Rush with different difficulties, but I didnt expect for a minimalist game not advertised as hard, to be so punishing. On the third level I was struggling without any mutations, in the 4th one and 5th I was not having a lot of fun anymore. Didnt even try completing any mission aside from finishing the level, like in the first two levels.
I get that being a small dev teamd and with few levels you want players to play those levels again and again but it's too much in my opinion.

I strongly suggest of you to add some difficulty options, please.

Sounds like you rushed through the maps without doing any challenges on the early maps.
Without building unlocks and additional perks you'll have a hard time on the later maps.

Wow, this seems like a Dark Souls forum with the elitism gamer crap, lol. Gaming is not my job, is it yours, guys? :steambored:

Getting to the point:

I get that the game is still in early access and it's a small dev team, so that is why I wanted to give feedback to them. The option for an easy/medium/hard for every level could solve the issue and is not too hard to implement. This is not the first post about the unexpected difficulty of the game, as it is not advertized like a difficult one.

Difficulty in a game is fine, mind you, but the point is that it needs a smooth learning curve. Between the first 5 levels of a game there cant be such a spike. If you need to do the optional challenges and retry the first two or three maps to get the unlocks and beat the 4th, 5th or 6th maps, there is a problem in your game regarding the difficulty curve. Not every player does the optional challenges and it shouldnt be mandatory if its optional.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, something like that. But as I was saying, if the player needs to do the optional challenges and retry the first two or three maps to get the unlocks and beat the 4th, 5th or 6th maps, there is a problem in the game regarding the difficulty curve. I think it could use more work.

Seems like every game forum nowadays is mostly sperglord adolescents just desperate to trash talk anyone with a different opinion from theirs, let alone anyone with a request to make something easier.

If you're struggling, here's a tip. Try to be as greedy as you can get away the first few waves without dying. If you get good income early game, it makes late game super easy. So tons of spending on houses, gold mines, harbors, etc. If you die just restart the day and build a bit more defense. And try to make use of unit counters and good placement of units.

If you just want to progress to future levels, there is a mutator that makes the enemies weaker, you can use that. I don't think the devs should add any difficulty settings other than that. The whole point of mutators is to adjust the difficulty, and reward the player for taking on a challenge.

Thats the key to succed in the game, you have tu build your economy first then watch for what the best for the next wave.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I will try getting more gold in early stages.

Lmao I find video game elitism the most hilarious and beta kinda thing in the world. OMG you're good at video games Im sure that gets the girls wet, oh no someone wants a difficulty option because they find a game you find easy too hard, time to trash talk them!

Yeah difficulty options aren't bad though and if anything games like Palworld and Sea of Stars show it's fine to allow the player to fine tune the difficulty for whichever players needs. It doesn't compromise anything outside of bragging points for this if the developer of this game thinks its better to side with the elitism rather than accessibility that's on them.

This is similar story to They Are Billions where the Steam forums were extremely toxic about the game's difficulty.

Yeah, it gets steep real quick.

With the difficulty of some of the later quests I'd actually like a look at the numbers behind the words. Is damage reduction percentage based or flat, how much tougher are elite enemies, how much damage do knights do comparison to berserks and flails, things like that.

The early levels don't feel like they need that, modifying up the boss on Frostsee definitely feel like it's necessary.

If only there was a guide explaining the game and unit mechanic, or a Wiki [throne-fall.github.io] with all units and their numeric values listed and everything else you can think of...

Edit: Somehow if forgot the link to the guide

If you relate that says a lot about you.

Also what Easy mode? There are no difficulty options there's the normal game mode and challenges for each level and that's it.
Guess you prefer insulting people over reading the available mutators.
