They buffed magic casters a lot in this version of the game, so I think you can take her in good conscious. You can still get the Rena ending if you want too, no prob.
As she's an early character, she has a LOT of story input. She helps immensely in the early game as it takes a while to get your next party member, especially if you're trying to recruit Opera. If you don't take her, she's a great skill dump for purity or esp items. In the olden days, mages got outclassed really quick, but supposedly they got massive buffs, so we'll see how that works out. At the very least, with the new assist system, having powerful mages using their best spells to assist in the fights doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world.
Her PA's are mostly kinda meh, but she's got one or two really good ones both on Claude's and Rena's playthrough. Her general personality is, well, she's a beautiful vain sorceress with blue blood is her basic description. There's way more interesting characters, but there's definitely weaker when it comes to personality.
Taking her definitely can make it impossible to get later characters. Especially if you load up on aliens in Expel*. If you don't load up on those characters (as in, you get a certain swordsman instead you can take every character with no problem, including Celine.
*for the purpose of this discussion, I'm including Welch to be an alien on Expel as well.
While it did make the first 10ish hours or so kind of boring with only Rena and Claude you can pick up Ashton pretty quickly or forego him for Opera (which is what I did). This does make you do the tournament before you get your 3rd party member but it's still really early in the game and it's only after that point you'll start finding hard enough bosses where it's better to have more than two characters.
The game isn't really difficult enough that early on to need more than two people though. Besides the entire game can be beaten with just Rena and Claude. I consider passing on Celine then going for Opera for your first recruit the more 'hard mode' playstyle.
That's possible, I find her VA annoying so I never pick her up. I always go for Opera and Bowman since I just like them better lol. That's really good information for other people though. Either way you're still looking at like 10 or so hours (depending on playstyle) until you can pick up a 3rd party member if you say no to Celine.
