Spoilers - To Celine or not to Celine
SOnoob here....

Should I take in Celine or not after Kross Cave? It looks like Rena doesn't like competition at all...

You've got an 8 character limit in this game. I can't recall if taking Celine will potentially lock you out of someone down the road though.

They buffed magic casters a lot in this version of the game, so I think you can take her in good conscious. You can still get the Rena ending if you want too, no prob.

Celine is a Great early game boon. But toward the end of what was "Disc 1" she falls of and is better as a skill mule by that point, i usually take her along.

Not using a guide she's one of 5 or 6 characters that are guaranteed to possibly pick up. So it depends if you plan on using a guide or not to fill out the roster.

Is Leon better?

I have this problem as well.

As she's an early character, she has a LOT of story input. She helps immensely in the early game as it takes a while to get your next party member, especially if you're trying to recruit Opera. If you don't take her, she's a great skill dump for purity or esp items. In the olden days, mages got outclassed really quick, but supposedly they got massive buffs, so we'll see how that works out. At the very least, with the new assist system, having powerful mages using their best spells to assist in the fights doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world.

Her PA's are mostly kinda meh, but she's got one or two really good ones both on Claude's and Rena's playthrough. Her general personality is, well, she's a beautiful vain sorceress with blue blood is her basic description. There's way more interesting characters, but there's definitely weaker when it comes to personality.

Taking her definitely can make it impossible to get later characters. Especially if you load up on aliens in Expel*. If you don't load up on those characters (as in, you get a certain swordsman instead you can take every character with no problem, including Celine.

*for the purpose of this discussion, I'm including Welch to be an alien on Expel as well.

Decide to stop being ♥♥♥♥♥-whipped and recruit her anyway!

mages are infinitely better in this version. you can disable spell cutscenes and later on you can increase damage cap

Lol? Have you played this game? She certainly does fall off even after leaving Expel. Mage is awesome in the remake.

I'm early game on Universe and Celine is helping a lot by breaking shields while my other melee is dead as soon as he gets hit. I might even do three magic users and me (Claude) being the only melee. Don't know if this is a good strategy, but y'know... adjust when need-be.

I decided to drop her this time around but I'll definitely use Leon once I pick him up.

I decided to skip her. Sure mages got a revamp in this version and they're much much better now so no longer a waste of a spot but I wanted to recruit the three pointy eared people because of very spoiler-y story reasons.

While it did make the first 10ish hours or so kind of boring with only Rena and Claude you can pick up Ashton pretty quickly or forego him for Opera (which is what I did). This does make you do the tournament before you get your 3rd party member but it's still really early in the game and it's only after that point you'll start finding hard enough bosses where it's better to have more than two characters.

The game isn't really difficult enough that early on to need more than two people though. Besides the entire game can be beaten with just Rena and Claude. I consider passing on Celine then going for Opera for your first recruit the more 'hard mode' playstyle.

She's a solid character, especially early on...but will immediately get outclassed by Leon mid/late game; especially considering some of the hidden spells Leon learns.

I think you can still get Precis before the tournament.

That's possible, I find her VA annoying so I never pick her up. I always go for Opera and Bowman since I just like them better lol. That's really good information for other people though. Either way you're still looking at like 10 or so hours (depending on playstyle) until you can pick up a 3rd party member if you say no to Celine.

I don't know if someone said it but she is really good, not even to play as, she have a better "scouting" than the others. You can skip her but she can be useful if you can make an extra slot for her.
