Low graphics score
Pretty new to this and i've got a problem.

I've increased my gpu clock over 100 from my earlier bench and its stable, but my overall graphics score is 1000 less. Cpu score, all temps everything else seems the same.

Any ideas why the score is less than before?

Because modern GPUs fluctuate clock speeds based on temperature and power draw. And they also feature limited error correcting built in. OC can cause performance to go down if it is too high vs. the available cooling, or if it triggers correctable errors.

Most likely root cause is too weak cooling. Force fans to 100% and/or improve case cooling.

Thanks for the reply- i'll try upping the fans as you say, but the 1st thing I checked was the temperature on the Timespy post run graph and I didn't see anything high at all. It even shows the average temps to be the same in the screenshot above, between the 2 runs.

I'll maybe run gpuz at the same time in case 3dmark is missing high temps.

You probably hitting a power limit if temps are in check, I know my 6800xt has a limit, too much over 2500mhz on the core I start to drop in performance. You can increase the power limit if you haven't already, should help with the clock fluctuations if temps are in check.

Now my Vega 64, that card was better left at stock core clock of 1630mhz and lower the core voltage from 1.2v to under 1v and I gained 800 points doing so because I wasn't hitting a power limit and I was much cooler, went from 300watt board power to just under 220watt. This card was pretty hard on the power limit compared to other cards.

I have it at +15 on the power and full 1200 on voltage.
Obviously this is not how I would run it normally. I'll undervolt and be happy.

I had a Vega 64 before my 5700xt, and now 6700xt.
Yeah the Vega was much maligned, but if you undervolted the difference was amazing.

Some lessons you can take away from this experience:

1. Always validate changes, because a stable overclock isn't necessarily a better overclock.
2. Change your overclock in smaller* chunks.

Good luck!

* 100 MHz might be an ok change from a true stock setting, but after getting a bit away from stock, smaller changes need to used (e.g., 25 Mhz).

I'm not very familiar with AMD cards but.. 49core and 75hotspot temps during a TS-run seems off, no?

True I did actually do smaller increases first, and I wouldn't be running those clocks anyway, I was just wondering what was wrong.

Off in what way? The new cards run very cool. In fact most AMD cards have better temps than people think, especially undervolted. Non reference anyway.

The difference between the GPU Temperature and the GPU Hot Spot Temperature should not be that high.

I noticed that. I had a 5700xt before and there was only 10c difference. This card it's 20c.

Higher clocks doesnt automatically mean better performance. It can result in worse performance too. If that happens its called an ''invalid OC''

That might be why then.OC'ing these cards is weird. I got the best performance dropping the base 1150mv down to 950ish, or 1000ish for more stable performance.
I think it has to do with the way the card boosts and hitting the power limit.
Try lowering the voltage slider instead of raising it.

Yeah but thats because partner models take effort to reduce temps. Reference cards have quite high temps.
