Could you provide full specs of his PC? CPU? GPU? Discs? RAM? Makes it much easier to troubleshoot. "Fine" is a relative term...
Olde 19 ENE 2016 a las 2:32 p. m.
telling us he meets requirements......well runs for 2 seconds and crashes these access violations seem to lead to RAM/memory either issues or not enough. providing specs might lead to a reason.....the first step in trouble shooting DCS crashes.....A. RUN DCS REPAIR. B RESTART COMPUTER C. C++/operating system not up to date. this game REQUIRES 8GB of ram and should suggest 16. i got money less then 8gb ram....just a guess.

then just google HP Smarttouch 520-1407c

Got it working now and as far as I can tell that laptop isn't 'fine' since a HD 2000 only has DirectX support up to Dx10. As mentioned above DCS 1.5 requires Dx11.

i had him check dxdiag and it said dx 11.1

Well the HD 2000 only supports all Dx features up to version 10.1 according to the manufacturer. (It even says so on the page you linked to)

Ok but for some reason he has 11.1 i checked. but besides that is there anything else wrong?
Hadji 19 ENE 2016 a las 3:26 p. m.
Low amount of RAM, not the fastest CPU (1.5 is still CPU hungry) and no Dx11 support is not a good combo to be honest and there is no way you can get it to run without Dx11 I'm afraid...
Olde 19 ENE 2016 a las 3:27 p. m.
you can say what you want......back with 1.2 you could get away in single player with 4gb of ram......but with new 1.5 like you downloaded there's not chance....even with 6....i play multi player and see it regularly use 10+GB ram......the less you have the more you force the game to unload to disk which causes lag.....while it may "RUN" it would be one choppy crappy experience. just tell him to TRY the <properties<BETAS<last 32 BIT 1.2 VERSION

Depending on where you checked that it might mean different things..

It might have software for new DirectX installed with OS but that does not mean the hardware supports using all those features.

In the past games had lots of code to check for specific DirectX capabilities (caps flags) and sometimes had software emulation of those missing. Eventually the amount became so large it does not make sense any more and doing things that way won't work any more: essentially software depend that hardware must have certain feature level supported to function at all.
