AMRAAM 120C vs R77
Is it only my feeling that 120C is much more accurate and harder to dodge than R77? Whenever I fly FC3 plane F15 it is just like walk in the park to fight vs 3x J11A but when I fight against 3xF15 with J11A and dammed amraams I will survive 1 or 2 times per 10.
It is simmilar to PVP online, maybe that is the point why is it soooo hard to find players to team up agains F18/16/15...

At current 120 is immune to chaff. You must out run it.
They will review other model later.
But don't expect thing get better.

R27 has 10 shots in one fight, 0 hit RL record.
Amraam has near 50% kill chances RL record.
R77 much shorter and not very robust.

SD-10 is new red favorite weapon. But still does not match amraam.

Yeh. Even with sd10 best you can do to pose serious threat to aware enemy is to sacrifice yourself but kill enemy too. And gloat in chat that your plane is half as expensive IRL.

Otherwise either both you miss or amraam gets you.

I don’t know a lot about missiles, but I have more than 17 years and still counting Radar Experiance with modern military radars both air to air and air to surface (submarine hunting radars) both from US and Israeli.I currently use the best submarine hunting radar that the US have to date, I have some but little experience with ground radar. Now I’m not going to write a 200 page on why but with my educated experience with no top secret knowledge about the Aim-120 like EVERYONE else the Aim-120 is very unlikely to be so well resistant to counter measures. And I also know from F-18 pilots themselves that the missile continues to track you for too long. They have all told me the battery actually runs out of juice when the target starts to do a lot of turns. So it ends up flying as a dud before it gets to max ranges

To put it short, it is just simply too small to fit the computing processing power and batteries to run such high PRF and anti clutter circuits that it would take on its own to achieve.

More then happy to write why I believe this without going into certain technology due to its security classification if you like. But it’ll probably be too big for these forums

The R-77 is closer to the AIM-120B than the C. You'll have to lower your expectations a bit.
I you think this way:

1)"I see the missile incoming"
2)"I just release countermeasures"
3)"Threat evaded"

Than no, this is the wrong way to do that. This is the BS putted in heads by arcade games, space games, e.t.c....

You have to use all techiques to evade.
You think you can not get hepatitis because you are vaccinated? Really nothing is 100% reliable.

I don't think anyone whos not a beginner at DCS thinks that way. Amraam NEZ is enforced irrespective of chaff and maneuver. SD10 not so much.
I don't quite understand why you think countermeasures and counter-countermeasures are so simple... Think of Aim-9X for example. It is not such prone to flares, it takes BOL-countermeasures to fool that missile. That's because it uses advanced imaging infrared seeker with image processing to determine true target. Generalizing missiles and countermeasures is ok, but when we go down to details it just works no more. One major problem with DCS missiles and countermeasures is that they're best guesses of classified systems. That sometimes causes God-like features. But hey, it's important to talk about these.

That might certainly be true at longer ranges. Another reason to be suspect when a missles range is advertised as “100 miles” or something. Max range is always a non manuevering target closing at max speed and lower altitude

But I doubt the AIM-120 runs out of battery power at 50-60% of its max range. Most AIM-120 kills in reality and in DCS (or my experience anyway) are between 10-30 miles.

The Aim-120 is battle tested. It has an excellent track record and there is no reason to think that it’s real world capabilities don’t reach its capabilities in DCS. I think a 50%PK at 10-20 miles is pretty accurate.

As for immunity to counter measures or jamming....lets be honest, no one here has the knowledge to discuss that competently. If they did, they wouldn’t be allowed to anyway
