Game is crashing when i click to launch it
The game was crashing when i clicked in new game so i did everything with the fallout3.ini and put the d3d9.dll and after that the game ran perfectly for two weeks. One day while i was playing the first the dlc the game crashed and now when open the launcher and click to launch it crashes. I tried to reinstalled it, tried to run in the lowest settings but it is still crashing, anyone know what should i do to fix it?

Specs: Intel Core i3

theres a fix for this, go to task manager click on fo3 game and choose to run on two cores, ive trained many fixes, tried my above fix once and ive never had a crash since, its coompletely made the game 10/10 for me, if that doesnt work try some fixed out on the net :)

hope that helps number9.
btw, its a quad core error, the game doesnt run well on quad core pcs and laptops (which is practically every computer in existence today xD)

Go to the exe file through file manager. right click > properties > compatability > then disable desktop composition.
the file for me is located in program files > Steam > Steam Apps > Common > Fallout 3 GOTY > fallout3.exe

You don't modify the ini file in the game. There is also an ini file in C:\Users\(username)\Documents\MyGames\Fallout3. Modify that file instead.

In fact, Gopher explains the whole thing best in his plaintive British accent:

I know, like i said in the first post the game ran perfectly for about two weeks and then it started crashing when i open the launcher and click to launch it.
This video helps those who are getting random crashes during the game or when they click in new game.

Thanks anyway :D

I'm having this problem too. I put the settings to all low, uncheck everything got to the main menu, set the settings to low as possible, start the game, it's loading then once about 5 seconds, it crashes. I have a windows 7 and on the fallout 3 download page, or the info on steam, it sais it's not compatible with windows 7. So, i don't know if this will be helpful, but i think after the 1.1 patch or whatever, it got messed up with the files and cannot load with windows 7. So your best bet would try to get an xp or vista. But tbh, just wait until another update or atleast look around to find some other answers. I hope this was helpful, best of luck to you.

Worked for me, Um, can I repeat, is there a reason why the steam installer script cannot just do this kind of thing by default?
1. open your steam folder
2. find the fallout goty folder, find fallout3 executable
3. right-click on it, select properties
4. select the compatability tab, turn off 'composition' it's a tick-box half way down.
5. click OK.
worked for me
