Using a gamepad or joystick

I bought a cheap 20buck pc controller from walmart I had a hell of a time even getting the game to work. Now in settings it shows it as joystick I configure it go back into the game and it defaults to keyboard. I am using a laptop how do I get it to stop defaultin back to the keyboard

from what I gather where this is a GFWL title, it natively supports the 360 controller. You can use xpadder or something along those lines if you want to use your controller.
Word of advise, most of the time, when buying controllers you get what you pay for.

Xbox 360 controller on FO3 and FO:NV works perfect without xpadder. I use a wireless 360 controller and the only thing that I needed to do to make it work, is install the 360 controller driver in Windows.

he didn't say anything about having a 360 controller, he said he got a cheap 20 dollar controller from walmart. That's why I recommended Xpadder, learn to read.
I have a wired 360 controller, if he woulda said I got a 360 controller from walmart, I woulda said download the driver and install it, and plug and play

No he did not, but you did mentioned the X360 controller. So all I'd try to do is confirming your comment that the x360 controller natively supports Fallout (and many other games btw) without hassle. Excuse me for the confusion.

I mentioned the 360 controller working, I should've elaborated a bit more in meaning it only supports the 360 controller. It's cool, ♥♥♥♥ happens
