Can I run Fallout 3 GOTY Retail Copy without the disc?

Just bought this from my local game store hoping I could use the CD Key in steam and It didn't work (unless I did it wrong). I think it's for that rubbish windows live. I was wondering if there was a way for me to play without the disc? If there is/isn't then let me know.

no one can tell you how to do that here its against forum rules to discus cracks and is a bannable offence

Yes you can, and without cracking it. Simply create a shortcut to "Fallout3.EXE" instead of the launcher. Bought the retail game the weekend, and this works.

Would be nice to be able to activate it on steam.

You can still add a shortcut to the game to the Steam library, right? Then you can use the Steam overlay and access the community while playing

Yes, you can completely bypass it. Though you do need it for your very first game. After that you can ignore it.
