Fallout 3 GOTY keeps freezing while playing (Windows 7)

Hi.
I recently purchased Fallout 3, but i keep having issues with the game. When i clicked new game, my game crashed. I searched for topics all over the net, and i changed the numer of cores to 2, deleted the intro video, installed the d3d9.dll file and lowered my graphics, and now i am able to play for a brief time, like 3-4 minutes, but the game keeps freezing while i'm playing. It doesn't come up with an error or anything, just freezes. Can anybody help me, i'm stating to get desperate. My PC is on windows 7, and certainly has high enough specs to run the game properly.

Disable MSAA (in-game) and use Morphological Filtering or FXAA instead. MSAA is known to cause crashes in gamebryo especially if you're using mods that alter textures or effects. I also suggest you use the FO3_3GB_ENABLER-6510 so FO3.exe can utilize more ram and Games for Windows LIVE Disable-1086 to get rid of the GFWL implementation. gl.

From what I've read, Fallout 3 has a lot of problems with Windows 7.

yeah i hear that to but it was alkready after i bought it. i tried playing ofline but still having the same problem. it just said the the game is not responding

Hey guys, had the same problem, did everything and NONE of them worked... then i found this ONE solution, its a bit of a hassle but worth it if you really want to play this game..

1. Press start
2.Type in msconfig
3.click boot
4.click advanced options
5.Check the box "number of proccessors
6.click one
7. resart computer
8.Enjoy your game

when you restart only ONE of your cores in your CPU will run so if you want to do anything afterwards go back to MSCONFIG and uncheck the box you checked and restart.

Well almost 10 years later and this tip was the only one that worked. I finally made it to Megaton. Thanks for the tip King Beans! I tried everything else and this fix got my out of the vault.

To my surprise, I switched the MSCONFIG processors back to 4 and Fallout 3 is still running perfect at the highest graphics setting. No freezes or faults of any kind. Maybe we only need to switch to 1 processor to get out of the vault. Once out, it seems you can switch back to multiple processors again.

One note, I'm playing local. I have an original CD so I'm not playing through Steam.
