Fix crash when starting new game [GOTY-2024]

After successfully launching the game when you click the New Game button you might experience a crash if you're using an AMD or Intel graphics device. To fix it you need to add a missing DirectX 9 dll file to the Fallout 3 installation directory.

You can download the missing dll file from here (you will need a Nexus Mods account): Intel HD graphics Bypass package[www.nexusmods.com]

You don't need the .ini file, just the d3d9.dll file. Copy and paste that to where Fallout3.exe is which is something like: ../steamapps/common/Fallout 3 goty/Fallout3.exe.

There isn't an existing file to replace, so you add this as a new file. And even though it says "Intel Fix" it works for AMD as well.

this works, but the fps is a disaster for me, i have a 6800 XT amd graphic card.
and a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700 processor, in AMD forums i read a post of a user, he says downgrading drivers from the graphics card to 23.12.1 it works, i didn´t try this fix but maybe it´s true

Don't downgrade your drivers for this game, there are dozens of other solutions to get the game to run properly. Just do some digging its always something different for everyone unfortunately. But def don't downgrade ur drivers

i went on to where you said where to go in the files but i couldnt find the d3d9 thing do i put the bypass thing that you had linked in there??

d3d9.dll doesn't exist when you install the game from Steam. You need to download it from nexus mods, which will require you to create an account, and paste it to where Fallout3.exe is.

Using this work around Fallout 3 options at startup detects AMD as wrong NV GFX card mine says Nvidia Geforce 7900GS instead of RX 6700 XT

Used only d3d9.dll file and put it into folder where .exe file is. It makes your game to think you have nvidia GPU.
