Fallout 3 GOTY edition crashes at new game

I am sure a lot of people are having the same issues with starting the game and getting it moving.

I have windows 11 and been at this for 6 hours total now. Everything that is posted seems a little out of date seeing at there has been an update to fix issues getting it going from the launcher. The issue my PC is experiencing is once I hit new game the game crashes. Is there any other solutions besides downloading mods?

Options that have been attempted
1. dropping to one monitor
2. running as admin
3. running in high performance
4. installing/ reinstalling
5. changing the video settings
6. Using a controller
7. downloading the game from GOG
8. Trying the windows live method.

Not sure what else to try honestly. Any help would be appreciated.

AMD GPU? if yes its the current driver that has issues/does not work with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Just hope they fix it in the nxt Driver release. Fallout 4 works just fine.

That's some bad news, yes I got a AMD Rad RX 6800xt. Thanks for posting, hopefully it does get fixed.

I think I have the same issue. 6700XT and can't get past the new game selection.

i tried play thios a couple years back with a Win 10 1060 6gb, Ryzen 5 1600, 16 g of ram. now i have Win 11 7800xt 7700x 32g ram, wth the same problem crash on new game

try the intel hd bypass its worked for me and i have a 7900xt

I wanted to report back that I used

and added it to my game files and it changed my detected GPU. Worked without a hitch. Crazy how Bethesda would let this go on sale without any fixes.

I have an AMD GPU and have never had an issue launching this game.

That kills the performance and doesn't even utilize your glu properly. It uses 18-50% GPU IF THAT. and even though the fsp is registering 120+ it's jittering and lagging as if it's 30fps.

Something i did was go to documents/my games/fallout 3 GOTY and i deleted my files that ended in .ini then I turned off my windows overlays, i suggest looking up a guide on the windows overlays bc I suck at explaining things.

Had same problem, game crashed as soon as i try to load the savegame. Drivers were the problem. I have RX5500XT and uninstalling actual and downloading 6months old drivers fixed the game.
I love AMD, but this sucked hard :)

that DOES NOT fully utilize your GPU. uses only about 10-18% of it. the GPU its tricking your game into thinking is a 20 year old GPU
I can confirm this driver is busted. GO TO GURU3D AND DOWNLOAD 23.12.1 AMD Adrenalin
It fixed it!!!! please everyone whos reading this submit a AMD Bug Report about this on the AMD Software thing. thtats the only way they will know
