Stuck in Little Lamplight!

So I started another playthrough recently, feeling nostalgic. I'm in Little Lamplight trying to get to Vault 87, but nobody's giving me the dialogue option about either opening Murder Pass or powering up the door so I can get in. I've tried console commands on the door, but either I'm not doing them right or they're just not working. Anyone have this problem and, if so, how did you fix it?

You do know you need to do the preliminary quest stages first?

Picking Up the Trail
5 Escort Doctor Li inside the Citadel.
10 Ask Scribe Rothchild for pre-war computer access.
20 Use the Vault-Tec computer in the Citadel Archives to locate a G.E.C.K.
30 Ask Scribe Rothchild for information about Vault 87.
40 Search Lamplight Caverns for a way into Vault 87.
50 Gain entrance to the town of Little Lamplight.
60 Enter Vault 87.

I've done all that and I still can't get the options to go through the pass or hack the computer. The dialog options to do both never come up and I've talked to those obnoxious brats over and over trying to get them to appear.

I even reloaded an older saved game and rescued the children from Paradise Falls again in the hopes that it would work, but it didn't.

you have to tell macready you want to use murder pass. when you do you need to follow him to the gate where princess is. they will raise the gate. if not, use the computer to use the shortcut. with a science of 50 you can use it.

I was eventually able to do that, but I had to reload an even earlier saved game. Saving the kids yet again gave me the option to get the other child to turn on the computer, which I used to enter the vault.
