how to find fallout.ini file

the guides seem to be very confusing not completely accruate

so i found out how to disable desktop composition with alot of confusion (compatibility tab was not where it was said to be)

and now i have no clue how to get the ini.file to customise and just to clarify im trying to diable multicore processing for fallout 3, a last ditch effort before finally giving up on this amazing game

Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3
Find the line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add another line after it and insert:

iNumHWThreads=2

This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.

*If the game still crashes write this iNumHWThreads=1

is it possible to use iNumHWThreads=4 for 4 core CPU's ?

No. The problem is the game engine is incapable of using more than 2 cores. Fallout 3 was not optimized for Quad core processors. That's why it crashes,

thats the thing i know where fallout 3 is in my documents, the problem however would be finding what to tweak around with

all i find is falloutprefs when i open

and right clicking the fallout 3 folder and going to properties is of no help

When you open the Fallout 3 folder in MyDocuments, do you see a file:

FALLOUT.....( date here ).........configuration settings

Yes. Double click on it and it should open in note pad.

You have FONV - save yourself some headaches and install Tale of Two Wastelands.

Play FO3 with all the stability improvements and features of FONV.

if you decide not to do tale of two wastelands, just do step 6 of the setup guide. it'll sort the .ini files out for you and add hundreds of bug fixes as well.
