Level cap at 20? What am I doing wrong?
So I just hit level 20, but I've still got a long way to go in the story. Doing side quests and killing things does not gain me XP anymore. I thought with the GOTY edition the level cap was 30? Can someone help? What am I doing wrong?

Have you activated the Broken Steel DLC? It's a requisite for progress to level 30.

Pity the level cap is only 30. Managed to complete the main quest and i am aslready on level 30. So mo more leveling up, pity. This and the continual crashing is irritating.

There is a way to fix the crashing, but i forget what it is.
It is in the forums somewhere though.
Oh, hi Dave Dec 23, 2013 @ 9:44am
There are many guides and forum posts on how to reduce crashing.

Now, for getting more enjoyment and longevity out of the game... I highly recommend the FWE mod from the Fallout Nexus. It's the only way I play anymore. It makes the game's combat and survival aspects much more demanding, and also slows down leveling. Best part is that everything is customizable so it doesn't have to be too difficult or too slow.

Since you're all playing on PC, why not use modding to increase the levelcap? http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/121/?

I use another mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/97/?

It makes leveling slower, meaning you need more XP to lvl.
Simply playing vanilla FO3 with 5 DLCs (without mods that add quests and enemies) makes you gain max lvl at midgame, and after the feeling to achieve something when killing stuff is gone, detracting one of the fun aspect of an RPG: character developement.

With this mod I have explored and completed EVERY map location, done 4 DLCs out of five, completed the main storyline and all other quests, and started the last DLC Broken Steel, and I am still lvl 29 and 15000 xp are needed to reach lvl cap, that will happen just before finishing all the contents FO£ has for you, and this without messing with enemy lvl.
