I guess what I'd do is to first get BOSS if you haven't already to see if anything needs to be cleaned or re-ordered in your current mod list. If everything's cool, I'd then use FO3Edit to create a merged patch and stick that at the end of your mod list. Hopefully that merged patch would stop the crashes.
I think ironsights in this game would be better than that emaciated pseudo zoom feature vanilla FO3 gives you. Ironsighting an assault rifle at a raider would be so much better than holding right-mouse and sort of pointing at him, or squinting, or whatever the hell it's supposed to be.
Hell, they added ironsights to New Vegas and that was one of the best improvements to the combat in the series.
Right... FO3 feels so dated largely because of it's poor shooting mechanics. VATS is great but when you run out of AP you're boned.
Funny thing is that I don't actually miss my ironsights mod too much. I've found that I miss my Weapon Mod Kits mod more. I was able to make the combat shotgun fully automatic which made it easily the best close quarters weapon in the game. Now that I'm off FOSE I've found that the shotgun is probably the worst weapon in the game. Oh well.
I'm also using the Wanderers Edition mod...just found an M1 Grand rifle and tore through a building full of super mutants with it. It's amazing how much some of these mods add to the game!
Also, if you're having mod trouble, make sure to use BOSS to check for any conflicts, and use FO3Edit to clean up the conflicts. When you've got a cleaned up final mod order list, try creating a merged patch with FO3Edit. Maybe all that will prevent some crashes and create harmony with all your mods.
ironsights is good anyways why u not want them?
