Thought i think fallout new vegas probably has more content and more thought out ideas.
I would highly recommend getting FO3 Wanderers Edition mode for fallout 3 as it adds so much more needed content.
The mode does make the game much more harder but i think you can
use the options within the mode to make it easier if that's how you like it.
I think it's definitely worth playing if you liked fallout new vegas as its pretty much the same game in an different world.
For the rest, not sure how many companions there are in New Vegas, but in Fallout 3 you have a total of 8 companions you can choose from.
Probably different weapons then New Vegas, in New Vegas you can modify your weapons while in Fallout 3 you can't. (you can if you install mods).
You don't have a reloading bench (if I'm saying it right) in Fallout 3.
I like the way that in Fallout 3 you start as a baby and develop into a 19 y/o, and actually start in the Vault.
For the rest, I really can't think about any difference in these two games :P
Fallout 3's story is, in my personal opinion, much better compared to NV's because it makes you live through all of it, first. You learn to care for your dad through watching his excitement as his child is born in Project Purity, and from the little things like the BB gun for your birthday (which was very hard to get) to the big things like his audio logs later on in the story.
Fallout: New Vegas's storyline doesn't cut it because it does none of these things. You're plopped out into the world with a fresh bullet wound as an adult and absolutely no backstory.
Additionally, a lot of people like what NV had brought to the table in terms of weapon modifications, disguises, etc... And I have only one thing to say about that:
Mods.
Fallout games have a somewhat lengthy shelf life due to their massive world and quests, but eventually it will get to the point where you've done everything and seen everywhere. Mods can add hundreds of hours to your game experience, from weapon modifications and new areas, to fleshed out and balanced companions to DLC-sized and quality quests!
So, in short: Yes, Fallout 3 is worth it, although it may be a bit difficult transitioning from NV to its predecessor. Take your time with it. Play the game as much as you can unmodded, first, and then mod in what you want changed or added.
When you do get into modding, spend a lot of time on the Nexus. Browse all the files, read carefully, and you'll find mods that will keep you playing this game for years.
NV is the story of Nevada and thereabouts and how a courrier affects it and what powers will rule it in the future.
In other words, FO3 is first about YOU, second about the world. NV is first about the world, second about you. In this regard FO3 is closer to the original, while NV is closer to the original in story and setting.
The main complaint I have for FO3 is that the world doesn't feel like it's 200+ years post apocalypse.. more like 20
TLDR: Play them both.
mostly offline but still a great game!
Not many quests tho, and btw if u end the main campaign can u still play the campaign?
