Fallout 3 crash on startup with mods
Hey folks! I apologise for yet another "Fallout crashes" discussion, I did search but couldn't find anything covering this specifically, or anything in the guide that fixed the issue despite best efforts.

So, running Fallout (old version off a disc, no through Program Files (x86) rather than SteamApps). Assume there are no mods installed (Using Nexus and NMM) works fine, boots up, no issues whatsoever, golden.
Second I install any mods whatsoever, be it patches, texture enhancements, graphic overhauls or anything else, crashes on startup with the standard windows message of "Fallout 3 has stopped work, windows is searching for a solution".
I do have FOSE installed (which is works with), and I have edited in .ini to allow multi-cores, but still no luck, any ideas?

Any help is much appreciated, recently got back into Fallout NV and really keen to play 3 again if I can get it running :)

update the game to the latest version. your mods probably don't work with the one you have. check the readme from the authors.
FOSE supports these versions. Retail DVD and Steam builds 1.0.0.15, 1.1.0.35, both versions of 1.4.0.6, 1.5.0.22, 1.6.0.3 and 1.7.0.3.
you did check that FOSE was really working in the console, right?

Like R5CYA suggested, update your game, first. If that doesn't work, are you trying to use all of the mods you want at once? Chances are you're having mod conflicts and need to repair or uninstall which ever mod is causing problems.

did the game work o.k. before you added any mods?

Just checked, the game is fully updated, no more are available, FOSE is all fully working in the console.
It is crashing as soon as I install any mods whatsoever, be it one, or ten, so can't be a conflict issue either.
Game does work without any mods installed, boots, plays, no issues at all

Small update, got some aspects working, not sure how though :/ only change since I last attempted is that my PC was off overnight. Regardless, some mods that weren't running yesterday now are, for example enhanced blood textures, Sprint mode and enhanced weather. However, the unofficial patch and and fellout still crash it on launch. This leads me to assume it's something that changes the foundations of the game that are causing it to break, but couldn't narrow down much more than that myself.
As always, any more insight is appreciated

what computer are you using? i've only ever seen one guy that the unnoficial patch made his game crash.
what are you using to determine the load order and to make sure there's no conflicts?

PC spec is more than enough, AMD FX-9590, GTX660, 8Gb 1600Mhz.

Not done any playing with load order, just messed around manually. For example, if I put on just the unofficial patch and nothing else, crashes on launch, this also applies to RH ironsights, fellout and fallout interoprability. If any one or more of these mods are install, it will crash on start. I have a selection of other mods now install that are more additions to the game, they all work dandy, but again, if I run any of the above, crash on launch

use FO3edit and see what it says. or loot or both.
with no mods at all, does the unofficial patch make it crash?
are you on windows 8?
are you installing the mods manually?
