Um, I am on the "Reilly's Rangers" side quest, but when I get part of the way across the hotel roof I get a notice that they are now hostile to me!

if you cause any damage to them they will turn hostle

This has happened to me once or twice as well, and confused, I checked the wiki. There, it says that if you have a weapon out when you go through the door to the roof, they will automatically assume you're a hostile, even if you haven't reached them yet. Just holster your weapon before going through the door.

DAMN! Nope Valden21 - I went through the door with weapon holstered - got farther than before but still got the alert and failed the damn quest!
Could it be because I disarmed their traps? Or because I took my time?
(I even slept for one hour a few times! I mean why use stims when there are perfectly good bombed out irradiated beds to use!!!)

Mebbe those dang blasted super muties use that way?

Them there rangers of Rielly's mus be a mite bit near sighted since they mistook muh skinny lil human butt for one 3 times bigguh, 5 times heavuh, and GREEN to boot!

I know it's been 10+ years since the OP.....but playing it now (May 2025) with about my 800 hours, I ran into the same problem:
YOU ARE NOW HOSTILE WITH REILLY'S RANGERS
Looks like the bug (from BUG_thesda) is one of 2:
(1) you took an immediate RIGHT turn which causes the BUG.
(2) you took too long and only 1 or 2 Rangers are still alive.
SOLUTIONS:
before you exit onto the roof, Quick-Save and holster your weapon
so you can get some running speed. Go LEFT instead of RIGHT &
keep weapon holstered for speed (you won't need it anyway).

If all else fails, when exiting onto the roof, hit your tilde key and TCL
directly to the top where the Rangers are and drop behind them.
