Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

How often do enemies respawn?
Yes I know it's been asked a thousand times over the last 7 years but hang on just a second.

I've been digging through some old threads, some say they should respawn around every 3 in-game days. However apart from some event based outcomes, or that the Talon Mercs spawn at random locations to catch you off guard, the 3 day rule doesn't appear to be a guarantee. I mean those enemies I've put down stay down in random streets, and their bodies are 'lootable' even after a week. There may a replacement of enemies, but definitely far fewer than my first encounter.

How does the whole system work exactly?

No one?

Yeah, 3 days (72 hours) is correct. Containers will never respawn though.

I'm not sure about this part though, but I think you need to leave and re enter the area. Like fast travel somewhere and back.

Yes. Cells won't reset if the player is close enough for them to be loaded.

some mods like MMM and FWE increase the respawn rate

Such a bad design, the world population reduced to a handful of people but somehow: limitless raiders and supermutants everywhere. In a world where more than half the population wasnt blown away, maybe - in a post apoc world - come on

That was 200 years ago. That and the game probably wouldn't have been as fun without the respawning enemies.

Is there a concentrated number of Enclave soldiers in the Capital that will respawn? I'm currently wearing their armor and using plasma weapons so I kinda need a steady flow of hardware to keep up with the repair. So far I've only run into tiny groups of them at unmarked areas doing their field ops or whatever.

Have you tried leaving the cells they inhabit? Like fast traveling a good distance away? They will respawn unless they're named NPCs that have to do with quests or something. It will take three days (72 hours) in a cell far away enough from them, and they should respawn, granted I don't know how many there will be.

What is this 'cell' you're referring to? Like the sector of the map?

Cells in Bethesda games are parts of the game world. If you're in one the enemies in that cell and some of the ones around it can't respawn. I wish I had more to say but I can't find any info.

I see. How big are each of these cells? I suppose they vary?

Well anything tied to a loading screen is a cell and the overworld has a ton of cells aswell. No idea how big the ones in the overworld are.

So technically speaking, if I wait in Megaton for 3 days, the rest of the world should have been updated the next time I leave town, correct?

Well aside from the cells near Megaton, yes.

One Enclave Soldier spawns quite often next to Dukov's place, east of Megaton (on the other side of the river). He's fighting 2 radroaches and you can go right next to him and aim for his head to finish him easily even at low level.
It "feels" like he's respawning every 2-3 days, it might be enough to repair your enclave armors.
