The Minigun is a rare and powerful weapon, and the ammo for it will generally be found in traders, more than bring found in wardrobes, ammo boxes and such. Focus on improving your bartering skills (Charisma/speech etc) to make you more efficient when acquiring ammunition from traders.
You want to find specialist weaponsmith traders - there you are more likely to find the ammo for powerful weapons. Also as you level up, higher tier stuff opens up more to you. In the meantime, try the hunting rifle and shotgun etc.. whatever you can use to help manage your 5mm minigun ammo supply. If you are killing radroaches with the Minigun, you may want to re-evaluate your tactical approach...
Use the spacebar exactly as you see the spaces in the command text below
type:
help 5mm rounds
(then hit enter). You should see a list of commands (number and letter digits) appear with a prefix ID before each one. Note down the MISC: [ID code] for 5mm ammunition, and then input it into:
player.additem [insert ID code here] 5000
For example, it may look like: player.additem 000c65f 5000
the 5000 value is the amount of ammunition you require. The (usually 7 digit) ID name will be what you obtained with the 'help' command referencing 5mm rounds.
Good luck!
