How to Downgrade Fallout 3 to Fix FOSE & Mods (2021) - 4GB Patch, GFWL Removal, Intel HD Bypass!
you need to use Fallout Anniversary Patcher[www.nexusmods.com] to downgrade the game
mod description
Fallout Anniversary Patcher
A patcher / downgrader tool for Fallout 3 that makes running a modded game a more comfortable experience.
Features
Downgrades the game from October 2021 update (1.7.0.4) to 1.7.0.3 which is widely supported by other mods, most notably FOSE
Removes Games for Windows Live (xlive.dll is no longer loaded by the game) and removes LIVE button from the main menu
Makes the game 4GB aware
Automatically loads FOSE when using Fallout3.exe to start the game (if FOSE is installed)
Fixes a file handle limit and mod limit bug
New in 1.1: Fixes a crash when using Intel graphics cards to run the game
Compatibility
The patcher supports latest Steam, GOG and Epic Games versions of the game, both GOTY and regular editions.
GOG version does not need to be downgraded or LAA-patched, so the patcher only applies other improvements to the executable as described above.
I had to do it and have 80 mods working flawlessly in my game
Doesnt work aswell. The patcher just tells me the executable is invalid.
did you run it by the games exe in the install directory?
yes, i did everything like it is shown in the video and multiple other threads
yea I didnt change anything with admin or compatibility. Also tried to use the vanilla exe instead of the modded/patched .exe
If you are running Vortex, just run the game though Steam play button.
*Vortex doesn't need to be open for mods to work.
Are you kidding me... I've been wracking my brain to try to get the game to track my hours through Vortex and it turns out I didn't need to use any of those FOSE/FOMM/NMM/app_id.txt workarounds this whole time?!?!? BRUH.
Still the same problem. I drag and drop everything from the Anniversary Patcher into the Fallout 3 folder, run the Patcher.exe and it says "Invalid executable"
What I also need to mention (what I didnt event expected to happen but finding out just know), even a clean version, nothings changed whatsoever... the game doesnt even start. The launcher opens, recognizes my hardware, I click play. the launcher closes and the game doesnt even start. Probably no wonder why the anniversary patcher etc. sees the exe as "invalid" because something is wrong with it in the first place.
It doesnt even create a FALLOUT.ini at this point.
I even tried that Intel HD bypass thing. Game still doesnt start.
Where should I start now to get the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ base game running?
Update:
I got it working by adding that "xlive.dll" into the game. Now it launches and all.
But still the anniversary patcher says the exe ist unvalid.
I already said that I did the bypass fix. That wasn the culprit tho
