Saves Missing
I recently got a new drive for a fresh windows install, so I cut and pasted the Fallout 3 folder from My Games, but almost 40 saves are missing. I had made a copy-pasted backup on another drive right before moving it, yet the saves are missing from it as well. As far as I know, Fallout 3 saves aren't stored anywhere besides Documents, yet none of the moves where interrupted, and I haven't deleted any purposefully.

Hmm... IF your old drive DON't have problem with file system, bitlocker or disk surface \ firmware...
OneDrive "well"-known as app that stole fallouts (and many other games and apps) files and mess with them as Defender with Controlled Access to files and folders enabled
and don't forget, that security permission can be different - better use fat32 \exFat file system for move files to userprofile - it more easy than meddle with cacls \ icacls

I've never setup one drive afaik, but I checked and still no dice. Looked around some more and I still cant find anything.

Try restarting your system, fallout sometimes gets a quirk that effects the saves and a system shut down and restart fixes it alot of times.

I've restarted multiple times since then, and that still would not explain the backups.

Different issue then and you said you don't use onedrive?
I would double check, I had a friend who didn't use onedrive but somehow it was actually running on his win11 even though he never signed into it.
Check this info just to verify that's not the issue.

Also go into the save folder and see if the files are there, you may have to unblock them in the properties, sometimes moving files from one system to another the file get's blocked by the window's security and a simple check of the file properties will tell you if that's the case. If that is the problem, click the unblock in the file properties and it should work then.

I'll look more at onedrive tomorrow, and yea, the problem is the files are actually missing from both the moved folders and pre-move backups.

to say that One Drive has nothing to do with it, can ONLY person who HIMSELF, PERSONALLY, removes One Drive COMPLETELY during the initial setup of Windows and blocks its recovery.
in W11 One Drive is controlled by CoPilot and cannot be turned off in the usual way. you have to use the convoluted method and write why you don't want the identity theft program to be disabled, otherwise Phil and Satia will be offended :2017cat:

in the next update this sh!t will appear in W10 :steamsad:

Fallout 3 does't have cloud, I think?

Once again, never setup onedrive or windows live. I looked through onedrive's folders and I can't find anything. I could try reinstalling steam on the old drive, installing Fallout 3, and seeing if it recognizes any saves, but besides that, i cant think of anything else.

never setup Ondrive = One Drive doing ANYTHING that M$ or hackers want :2017cat:
login with M$ Account = CAN'T simple disable One Drive and M$ Cloud(that currently exploited :2018salienpsychic:)
do you try rename 2 autobak files and change security!! (NOT READONLY!!!) permissions?

Where would the autobak files be located?

by default C:\Users\%your windows login%\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\Saves

sometimes in:
C:\Users\\%your windows login%\Documents\My Games\Fallout\%yourGFWLname%\Saves
or inside OneDrive folders
or on localized OS in C:\Users\%your windows login%\Documents\%My games on your Language%\Fallout3\Saves
+ some settings in C:\Users\%your windows login%\AppData\Local\Fallout3\

Not the fallout saves location, the autobak files you mentioned above.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I missed those. The auto was as far back as the others, but the quick was just a few minutes behind. Thanks man, thought by autobak you meant something for OneDrive. Still seems weird how all the other saves just disappeared.
