Don't worry that the thread is for New Vegas, it's the same problem for both games. If you're using an Nvidia card, the last version that still works is 368.81. I don't know about AMD, but people have reported problems with 16.9.2.
And yes, everyone who has an Nvidia card has had the problem. Some who use AMD as well.
Yeah, I did some fishing but couldn't find any up-to-date solution, obviously wasn't looking hard enough!
The game is working a treat again.
It's a combination of the driver and the Windows 10 Anniversary update. Microsoft made a change to one of the shader protocols used by video cards, and any driver released that has that change in it will crash the game. Even some AMD cards are doing it.
It's not just the Fallout games that are affected, apparently Oblivion is doing it too. And there could very well be other non-Bethesda titles that are having the issue as well. I don't hang out in that many game forums so I don't know which ones.
Well there is that thread I linked to that will provide you with another alternative. Some people have had graphics problems using it though, and it will break any ENB anyone tries to add to the game. But rolling back your drivers isn't your only option at least. It's probably the most stable one however.
