[Fallout] [Opinion] The Brotherhood of Steel is a Failure
Before we start with the reasons as to why I believe the Brotherhood of Steel is a failure, I want to make clear I haven't played a lot of Fallout 76 and I'm literally basing my entire knowledge of the Appalachian expedition on whatever I find in the Nukapedia Fallout Wiki. I also feel I must mention that I know the Brotherhood of Steel has changed over time and each chapter is different from the others. Also, I think sending Arthur Maxson to the East Coast was actually a tactical move due rather than the Brotherhood of Steel being brain dead little b*tches. Why would they send young Arthur? Simple, because of the BoS-NCR war. With that out of the way, let's begin.

I also need to clarify I won't be talking about games that aren't canon, such as Brotherhood of Steel (ironic, isn't it? the game with the name of the faction we're currently talking about has nothing to do with this glorious sh*tpost) or Tactics. Pinball and Shelter are canon, though, whether you like it or not.

And with all of that out of the way, let's be-

All Hail Timothy!

Alright, and with that truly out of the motherf*cking way, let's f*cking begin at once in the Star Father's name.

-Who are the Brotherhood of Steel-
The Brotherhood of Steel is a faction that descends from the United States Armed Forces stationed at the Mariposa Military Base on the year 2077. They were founded by Captain Roger Maxson and their goal is to preserve technology and to make sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
Shortly after the Great War, Captain Roger Maxson declared they were no longer part of the United States of America and were a completely new organization with different goals in mind that wouldn't fail it's people.
In the year 2077, Elizabeth Taggerdy from Taggerdy's Rangers made contact with the Brotherhood of Steel via radio transmission. Taggerdy, being a close friend of Roger Maxson, decided to join the Brotherhood of Steel. The Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel tried to contain and eliminate the Scorched Plague, however they pathetically failed and died in their foolish attempt at stopping the plague to spread across West Virginia.
An expedition from Lost Hills was sent to investigate what happened to the Appalachian Brotherhood, and on 2103, they finally settled in Appalachia. The new Appalachian Brotherhood found the feared Scorched Plague to be erradicated by a bunch of vault dwellers of Vault 76. This new Appalachian Brotherhood eliminated some supermutant threat wtih the help of the Vault 76 dwellers and that's pretty much it for the Appalachian Brotherhood. How the f*ck in Mormon Jesus' name did they send a whole expedition to Appalachia in 2103, 26 years after the Great War, when the Brotherhood of Steel didn't have the blueprints to create vertibirds? Don't question it, according to Todd, it just works.
In the year 2161, the Vault Dweller defeats the Master's Army. With High Elder John Maxson's passing, Rhombus took control over the the Brotherhood and turned it into a major research and development house that introduced technology into New California.
During 2241, the Brotherhood had been buttf*cked to death and were on the brink of destruction.
Somewhere around the 2250s, the Brotherhood of Steel and the NCR got autism schism and decided to put each other's finger up their asses filled to the brim with sh*t to see who was the smartest. The Brotherhood, angry the NCR had cheated by putting a stick up their smelly rectum instead of a finger, declared their d*ck was still the biggest and committed mass genocide against the NCR with the excuse that they didn't know how to use technology. The brainlets that governed the New California Republic decided to fight back and somehow managed to win. The BoS had a chapter in the Mojave, and once the NCR entered the Mojave Desert, more brain cancer appeared out of nowhere and they fought each other once again. The Brotherhood ended up losing Lost Hills, Helios One and many other places.
By 2277, the Brotherhood of Steel has already settled in the Capital Wasteland, with Owyn Lyons as their Elder. With the power of bad storytelling and the mutilation of freedom in RPGs, the Lone Wanderer was forced to help the white knights with no flaws whatsoever (according to themseleves, the "good guys") and they succeeded on killing the Enclave stationed at Raven Rock and Adams Air Force Base.
Afton Owyn Lyons' death, his daughter, Sarah Lyons, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ died in less than a year as Elder of the East Coast Brotherhood.
Arthur Maxson, direct descendant of Roger Maxson, who for some reason had been with the East Coast Brotherhood for no reason at all, took over and became Elder and lived unlike his FEMALE predecesor.
Somewhere in the timeline between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, the Brotherhood unifies with Outcasts once they notice they have so many things in common such as having an unhealthy hatred towards ghouls for no actual reason at all. They even make the potato and the apple go extinct on the East Coast! Not only that, but they destroid Rivet City! Thanks, Arthur Maxson!
On 2281, they exist as a sh*tty meaningless shadow of it's former self (not like that's much of a difference) that may or may not have gone to Oblivion by the time Fallout 4 takes place.
On 2287, the Brotherhood of Steel reaches the Commonwealth thanks to the unoriginal writing and storytelling from Emil Pagliarulo. It's unknown what happened, whether or not were they victorious at putting their fingers up their asses when fighting against 15.ai, the Underground Perverts and the Farmers.

-Hierarchy-
Let's make something clear, the hierarchy has changed over time and it's different between chapters. Not only that, but the High Elder isn't that much of a leader. The Council of Elders, however, are the leaders. They argue between themselves like the old people with alzheimer and schizophrenia they are. How the f*ck does the Council of Elders have more power over the High Elder, I have no f*cking idea how or why. The Nukapedia Fallout Wiki has been updated and some jackass simplified all the already existing information, making my life harder. And no, I'm not confusing it with The Vault Wiki or any other f*cking Fallout Wiki. So yeah, go f*ck yourself deep in the woods, perhaps a pack of wolves will mangle you to death so you no longer have to question who the f*ck in Atom's name though it was so funny to turn this sh*tpost into a hellish nightmare. So yeah, go make your own research, nerd.
Also, the ranks are kinda stupid. I understand they no longer want to be related with the US government, but... Knight, Paladin, Elder... Seriously?

-Failure-
The moment you've been waiting for. Why do I think the Brotherhood of Steel is a failure?
1. Just look at their current situation. The NCR has buttf*cked them, and it's only through bad storytelling that they survive. I would be okay with a few remnants hiding and escaping to the East, but what Fallout 3, 4 and 76 do is too much. How did they suddenly turn into a major force? Bad storytelling. Anyways, it's confirmed that all official presence of BoS in the Western Coast of the USA has been exterminated.
2. They are incompetent. Just like many other factions, the BoS
3. They don't know their own history. In Fallout 1, it's confirmed none of the initiates know about their founder, Roger Maxson. In FNV, Caesar confirms that even he knows who is the founder of the Brotherhood while all of the captured BoS members from the East had no f*cking idea of who Roger Maxson was. In Fallout 4, Paladin Danse thinks the Enclave betrayed America and that the BoS is loyal to America while in reality the Brotherhood are deserters. The whole reason of why they exist in the first place is because they no longer wanted to be related with US due to their use of FEV on people. As time passes, the Brotherhood drifts far away from their original goals, up to a point in which the organization no longer is the Brotherhood of Steel.
4. They are way too fractured. Each chapter does whatever they want without questioning the actions of the other chapters. The East Coast Brotherhood is a completely different organization from the West Coast Brotherhood.
5. The Brotherhood just keeps getting into wars they shouldn't get into. The BoS-NCR war was caused by them disliking the way the NCR used technology. Okay, and? Remember, the Brotherhood was using technology the same way and were being helped by the New California Republic. They just f*cked themselves by attacking those that were keeping them alive. They have been heavily weakened by these wars and they're wasting resources for no reason at all.
6. They cannot fight those that try to hurt the organization due to their xenophobia, their incompetence and their small size. They're a bunch of assh*les towards outsiders, of course their numbers are going to be low if they don't recruit nor train their troops. For example, they sent unwanted recruits to The Glow, a highly radioactive area, just to get them away from the organization. Once the Vault Dweller did it, they were extremely butthurt that a mere outsider managed to recover some ancient disk from a place that no one comes back from.
7. Their hierarchy system is too sh*tty, it isn't functional. They kick out their own members if they don't follow the "Chain that Binds", although there are many times that the Elders have broken the chain of command. Well, that's pretty much corruption, and the same thing happens with the NCR. That still is a pretty huge f*cking problem, corruption.
8. Their leadership sucks ass. I mean, who is the leader of the Brotherhood? The Council? The High Elder? We know the Council of Elders holds the most power, but everyone sees the High Elder as the most important figure in the Brotherhood.
9. Just what rank is Arthur Maxson? Is he considered to be High Elder? His father, direct descendant of Roger Maxson, was a paladin, so why should Arthur Maxson be the f*cking leader all of a sudden? You had more competent people. And remember, Rhombus started to lead the Brotherhood in Lost Hills after John Maxson died.
10. Their religion is weird... Do they have a religion...? I mean, even the Children of Atom bullsh*t has got more proof behind it than the sh*t about Arthur's soul being forged with steel. The Brotherhood was never religious, so why are they now? I'm not trying to say they shouldn't be religious, I mean, I guess it's possible... But wouldn't that make Arthur Maxson a god? Doesn't that make Arthur's father a god? Why was he a mere sh*tbrain steelf*cker paladin? Just what the f*ck is this religion? Shouldn't there be more into this? I dunno, if you join them, they should tell you about their religion that is less realistic than Hubology, and that sure sounds like stuff only a brainlet would believe in.
11. They just have little connection between chapters. They aren't strong enough on their own, the Western Brotherhood needs the help of the Eastern Brotherhood, and although they know about each other and have contact with each other, they don't help each other. We know thanks to Fallout 4 that the West Coast BoS is still operative, yet they don't lend a hand. Guess we can let the West Coast Brotherhood f*cking die, at least on the East Coast Bethesda will keep on licking their buttholes until their f*cking clean, and you know it'll never end up being clean. Oh no, they shall stay dirtier than a mole rat have sexy time with a radscorpion covered in mutant coom.
12. They are all little b*tches vilified by most faction in the world.

[TLDR/Conclusion/Summary]

1. F*ck the Brotherhood of Steel
2. They suck stinky monkey bananas
3. All Hail Timothy

This inspired me to go look at the Nukapedia. Having played 76 a fair bit, the nukapedia makes a lot of generalizations and glosses over a lot of details. Interesting...
I love them. Humanity is doomed so we are going to ef it up for them even more by hoarding technology and leave them with nothing. Then when someone who can fight back and tear them a new one like the NCR its boo hoo nobody likes us we cant figure out why.

Yeah, the Brotherhood of Steel is basically a group of jerks that hoard technology which they cannot even comprehend. They get into random wars just because they can and when someone can fight back their autism they get crippiling depressing and wonder how did this happen.

Just like MrHouse said, they hoard technology that hurts and kills people, not technology that helps people.

Their goal is to keep technology from falling into the wrong hands, and they already failed by letting themselves have those technologies. They are the wrong hands.

Yeah, that kinda sucks. I would have played 76 more often if I had more time. I can only rely on Nukapedia, which oversimplifies stuff and makes my job at sh*tposting harder.

I think I should start watching Fallout 76 lore videos to know more about the game's plot.
