Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Fallout 3 not loading with Windows 10
Downloaded this game in mid August. Found there was an issue with it working when using Windows 10 The issue is still not fixed and the last posting was on 16th August. I know it's only a few pounds, but if I buy something I expect it to work, or the issues causing it not to work to be fixed reasonably promptly

The problem is that the game uses something called, "Games for Windows Live". The problem is that Microsoft killed that service. Now, if you can track down a copy(you just need the redistributable), then that fixes the problems with running the game.

In looking further, the Steam version has the redistributable, but does not seem to install it.

Go to your game library, then right-click on it, and then go to where you can browse the local game files. You will find a directory/folder called: GFWLive. Go in there, and run the Xliveredist01.02.0241.00.msi. Yep, it's legit since it came with the game. That should fix the problem.

or you can just restart steam as admin, and load the game as admin and itll work without doing all this ♥♥♥♥...

I had the same issue and installing nexus mod "Games for Windows LIVE Disabler" fix it.

You can download mod here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/1086

After mod installation (manual or through Vortex client) remember to run .exe file and click "Disable G4WL". Just in case you can also use "Move DLC's" option which should fix issue with DLC in-game accesibility.

The last step is copying Fallout_default.ini file to your win10 Documents.

You have to copy Fallout_default.ini from your steam folder (ex. \Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\Fallout_default.ini ) and paste it to the following folder: C:\Users\[username]\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\

Then make a backup of Fallout.ini and rename it (ex. Fallout_backup_old.ini). Rename Fallout_default.ini to Fallout.ini

Aaaand it's done!

This solution combined with mod disabler fixed my issue. Now Fallout 3 works like a charm on my win10.

^^ You can do all of that.... orrr, you can just download: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/24466?tab=files

And drag the xlive.dll from the archive into the main Fallout 3 folder, where the Fallout3.exe is. That's it.

dont load the ♥♥♥♥ mod.
valve always brings its own solution.
go to folder: steam/steamapp/common/Fallout 3 goty
in this folder you go to folder: Fallout 3 goty/GFWLive
and install Valve version of GFWLive!
now you game works fine!
when you need dx9 its in the goty folder too

sry for my englich <3
