Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Great game but what about the voice acring?
I'm almost to an end with Fallout 3 and it has been a very fun and interesting journey. One thing that stands out to me though is the awful voice acting. It sounds almost like it's delibrately bad. Very unenthusiastic sounding, as though most characters are just talking without much in the way of inflection in their voices.
Did they run out of money and get the devs to do the voice acting instead? Is there some kind of story behind the voice acting? This isn't a criticism from me, just a curiosity more than anything.

That's funny, as I was gaming in my dad's apartment and I was listening to the audio tapes about project purity and my old man said "Is that Liam Neeson's voice coming from your computer!?". I never did check the credits to see if Liam Neeson actually voiced the Lone Wonderer's dad or not!

English. The voice acting is awful in English, maybe the game was made in a foreign country or something!?
The voice acting is almost like it's delibrately bad. The characters sound very "false". It's like someone is just unenthusastically talking without any expression.

For me it's passable voice acting. Not fantastic by any means, but also not down right awful. Though why they wanted to get one big name actor to play a character, rather than a slightly better voice cast, or at the very least more varied voice actors, is beyond me.

So it is true that Liam Neeson cost them a lot of their voice budget, then. I have played other games that have way more expressive voice acting which sounds like real people talking in real situations.
Like Half-Life 2, Crysis,FEAR, Deus Ex HR, etc. But for some reason Fallout 3 sounds very "quaint" with regards to the voice acting.

Meh, my first Bethesda game was Oblivion. Starts out awesome: Patrick Stewart!!!!! Then went downhill fast. Seemed like they had about 6 actors to do all the voices. I didn't think FO3 voice acting was too bad. Not as good New vegas, but passable.
