Fallout 3 crashes during combat
I know there are a bunch of posts with solutions to this problem but all the solutions I find don't work. I've tried going into the ini file and changing the bUseThreadedAI=0 to 1 and adding iNumHWThreads=2 underneath but that didn't work. I can't use windowed mode as I only have 2 resolutions available which are both way too small and I also tried setting a custom resolution to fix this but it didn't use it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. I have tried running the game on Windows XP compatibility pack 3 which also didn't work. I can run Fallout NV and Fallout 4 without issue it's just Fallout 3 that refuses to work

Same problem here, mate. On the first proper mission, where you have to find out what happened to Big Town's hostages. As soon as I kill a super mutant, the game freezes my whole computer up. With the Corona situation I need to get the most out of all my games, as IRL life has all but come to a standstill.

Edit: I followed the instructions in this guide
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/21888/?
You need to sign up to nexusmods, despite it making it look like you have to pay, you actually don't, when you register an account, if you scroll down the registration page there is a free option.

It's quite simple, download the .RAR file (you'll need winRAR to open it) and then put the .ini file and the actual patch executable into the fall out 3 folder in steamapps/common/fallout3.

Then click on the patch executable file, a dialog box will come up asking you which file you want to use it on. Once you've done that, you can open the game and play as normal.

In the first mission where you have to rescue shorty and red, it was crashing whenever I was fighting the supermutants. Since installing that patch I have fought supermutants and had the game running for 220 minutes according to Steam and not one crash!

If this is a bit too long winded for you, I have also read that running the game in windowed mode can solve the issue, as well.
