So when James went against The Overseer and left the vault, Jonas helped him. Jonas went against The Overseer, which is the same as going against the little fat dictator of North Korea. You're gonna die.
To be honest, it wasn't even The Overseer's fault. When he was a kid he too would have had to obey the every command of his Overseer, and he would've been killed if he had gone against him. The Overseer was brainwashed too, as part of the experiment. He's so brainwashed he even stands by as his henchman beats his daughter for helping you escape.
...
Has to be raining, no rain in vaults, do we have a sprinkler system?
In any case, that was a very insightful response. I've never compared Vault 101 to North Korea before, but it makes a lot of sense. Even their school work and radio is focussed around worshipping the most important man in the vault, The Overseer.
(Not true, I'm the most important in the vault.)
Well you probably already knew this but almost all of the vaults had a secret experiment. Vault 101's experiment was to be sealed forever and literally never opened, with the overseer having absolute dictatorial power. The goal was to study how a small isolated society would evolve long-term under these conditions.
They were cheating though, because if you read the overseer's terminal before you leave the vault, you'll see that he's been sending expeditions to the area around the vault and to Megaton. He even allowed an old couple from the vault to leave and settle in Megaton to act as ambassadors. He probably told the vault that they died and were incinerated.
So he was lying and cheating all along!
But yes, I did read the computers... I read all the computers.
SUK ME HAHAHA - Raider at a School near Megaton.
Sometimes there's interesting little tidbits of lore or just random scribblings of a bored bethesda employee, but it's generally worth the read.
Yeah, I also have a mod called "DC Interiors". Basically it adds doors to a lot of buildings that don't have doors in the vanilla game, and you can go in and have a look around, do some killing and some looting and whatnot. A lot of them have notes and stuff in them.
First one you find is in Springvale. A raider is living in there and if you read his diary he says that he hates the other raiders in the school and would like to kill them and is celebrating his birthday. The whole house is covered in balloons lol.
It's a damn good mod I tell ya. Most of the new houses are in the big city and I haven't gotten to them yet. Can't wait!
I wonder if there's a lot of spots for safe storage. I need more of that, I'm tired of trudging very slowly to Megaton with a thousand+ pounds of weight.
I'm sure there are mods that add safehouses, I just never bothered to look. I never loot everything I come across in Fallout or Elder Scrolls games. I just take stuff I need. If I loot everything I find I'm already basically the king of the world at level 5, rich and full of ammo. In Fallout 3 I use the FWE mod (gameplay overhaul, makes world so much more deadly) and I try to be as realistic as possible.
Like, instead of carrying 5 different guns and so much ammo for each gun, I just take a main, a sidearm and a melee. On this playthrough I went with the hunting rifle, 10mm pistol and baseball bat. Couple of grenades and mines too.
I could carry that stuff in real life. A rifle slung over my shoulder, a pistol on my hip and a baseball bat fastened to a backpack, with a couple of grenades/mines and some meds and food/drinks in the backpack too. It just makes the game feel more immersive to me when I do this.
Obviously at some point the hunting rifle and 10mm pistol are going to have to be upgraded to better weapons when the enemies get tougher but I'll figure that out when I get there.
I do specialise though, I just like looting everything. For NV I typically went for a modded hunting rifle, a machete and very basic armour, like, a sherif jacket / hat.
... ♥♥♥♥, now I need to play more FNV....
As for the enemies getting better in FO3. I very much like the backwater rifle in Point Lookout. It's a very basic weapon, uses 10MM bullets. Powerful, reloads quickly, looks nice. All anyone could want really.
I've had challenge playthroughs, playing the entire game naked and with no weapons. (My character was also naked and unarmed.) Or playing as myself and being very honest about the stats. (6 INT, 2 LCK 1 Agility) And certain mods to make it harder here and there too! ^_^ Long as it's still fun.
But I never like inventory space to be a challenge, I hoard things. Lot's of clutter being left unlooted drives me mental. Haha!
Yeah I've always made my characters in my own image. When I first played the game back in 2008 I always used to put my charisma down to 4 or 3, and never ever put any points into the speech skill, because at that point in my life I was so shy I could barely look people in the eye. Now that I'm 30 though I'm much more confident, I actually allow myself to have 5 charisma and SOME points in speech.
I'm a pretty big dude and I always thought I was as intelligent as I am strong, so my INT and STR stats are always the same... endurance has to be my best stat and luck has to be my worst (luck is still 1 or 2, even at the age of 30, it didn't get better unlike charisma). Agility doesn't come natural to me so that's at best a 4.
I've never done a naked/unarmed playthrough though. That doesn't sound very appealing to me. I can't imagine any scenario where I (the actual person of me) would, if I found myself in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, would go around naked and killing things with my fists. Unless I got addicted to meth maybe...
