.44 ammo for prototype pistol
I dunno where I picked it up from ( I am only at level 5 and not even begun the main quest yet) but I have somehow picked up this handy little pistol which knocks anything dead with one shot - bit like the Godgun in FNV - and I would like to keep it as my weapon of preference, but I am nearly out of ammo and cannot find anywhere that sells it. I have tried Moira in Megaton and the Market in Rivet City - nada- and as yet have not explored enough of the map or done enough of the quests to find other possible locations. I wondered if I could make it, as can be done in FNV, and have downloaded a mod that offers schematics - needing to be collected from three different places, but I want some ammo NOW.. is there a solution to my problem please? This little gun has spoiled me - I do not want to use anything else now...

prototype pistol? what?

what I said.... where it came from - dunno, never found it before...maybe I picked it up from the air-dropped crate one finds in one of the Grayditch houses, or perhaps it is a goodie from AWOP. I have a friendly feral ghoul who first comes to greet me in Megaton, name of Feary and then peers adoringly into my face. He follows me everywhere and fights my enemies, but once he is killed he does not come back for a long time. He is prob from AWOP as well. :)

we cant help you if you are not giving any info other than "prototype pistol"...

I don't think you can help me out by knowing the name. It takes .44 magnum. Prob not vanilla. Prototype Magshot.

well if it is a weapon from some modification then you propably need to find some schematics about the ammo and make yourself propably... but again no mod name...

that IS the name.. but that's OK. I really just wanted to know who might sell .44 ammo, thanks for the help. :)

Merchants and rare drops. .44 are good weapons, so it's a bit hard to find. I'd keep something else as a main weapon and whip out the .44 for harder fights. Here's the wiki for a list of all of the merchants that sell it.

thanks kwhero, I was ahead of you there re the wiki and did go to Rivet City and Moira in Megaton, neither of whom had it, and the other places are too far from me to go to just at this point, so... :( as you say, I will have to use another weapon - but the pistol only has five bullets left anyway.. I do have plenty of ammo via Calibre, but none of it is for the pistol... oh well.. such is life.. :)

ah! I now know where I got the gun; the water tower mod (home) near to Megaton.. I disabled the mod because I had no further need of that home - and lost the gun, re-enabled the mod, and the gun is back in my weapons list... perhaps I had better go back and see if there are any boxes of ammo.... well, one mystery solved!

Rivery Jerald, if you read the last post I entered you will see that I did identify it as part of a player home mod, not a mod specific to weapons but a water tower home. It was there and I took it without realising it was more than an ordinary pistol. Another mod I have also gives a friendly ghoul who follows you around - that mod s probably 'a world of pain' which is, again, not specific to ghouls but includes a whole new set of places and adventures. It took me a while to work out where 'Feary' had come from as there is no obvious mention of him when you download the mod - so you can keep your suspicious 'hmms' to yourself and remember my experience when (if) something similarly unexpected pops up when you are playing.....

Take the scrounger perk as soon as you can. I now have over 150 rounfd of ..44 magnum ammo. Problem is, I don't like either the scoped .44 or the sniper rifle. Neither of them shoot straight. In fact they are so bad it looks like they're shooting sideways.

well I do have the Calibre mod, which gives you way more ammo than you will ever use - but none of it is the sort used by small guns you are likely to find early in the game.. but I get by.. :)
