Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Does anyone have any ideas to stop Fallout 3 crashes on Windows 10? Or is it a lost cause?
I originally had it set up with the unofficial patch, the multi-core ini tweaks, CASM save manager, the stutter remover mod, and running it in borderless windowed mode.

However, I had some random crashes, maybe in 20-25 minutes, maybe in 3-4 hours, it seemed kind of random.

So I looked online and people had problems with the stutter remover mod, so I tweaked the settings, but still had crashes. So then I uninstalled the stutter remover entirely, and just used the "iFPSClamp=59" Fallout.ini tweak.

It seemed like that fixed the problem...until I crashed recently during my most recent session.

Sure, CASM saves every 5 minutes, but it's still annoying and alarming to potentially lose up to 5 minutes of progress at any given time, I can never predict when the crash comes.

Has anyone found a surefire way to play for hours with no crashes?

Did you change BuseThreadAI = 0 to bUseThreadAI = 1 and added "iNumHWthreads = 2" in the fallout ini file? You can find this in your documents folder.
Large Adress Aware
aka
4gb patch

if it's random over time and not direclty recreatable
chances are you are running out of memory.... due to a build in memory leak -.-

fo3 only uses 2 gb of ram while it can use 4 ( 200% increase is 200% )

-------------------------------------

also type "pcb" ( no quotations ) in console every once in a while to force the game to unload interior and exterior cells you curently aren't in form it's memory
( they only add onto the memory leak )
( somehow fo3 doesn't clear it's own memory vey well and will have an interior in megaton in memory while you are somewhere in a metro in dc.... as you can understand that is useless :p )

the best way to tell if it's going to go bottoms up is by opening containers of any sort ( or inventories on npc's )
this should be instant !!!!

if there is a second of delay there, then the memory leak has reached critical proportions and is destined to crash you
( pcb at this point will extend it a bit, but not fix ti )

make save
quit
restart with a cleared memory

is your only option at that point :)

this is random
it can happen after 30 minutes or after 3 hours

4gb and pcb will push the limit as far as they can :)
