Game crashes during combat

So I am on Windows 10 and when I get into fights the game often freezes up. I can't alt tab or do anything but turn off my pc. It seems to be happening more frequently now. I was doing the quest where you are escorting the scientists to the Citadel and it froze a good 10 times. Any fixes?

this fixed crashing for me if i attacked my house robot:

1. Open your My Documents folder.

2. Under My Games, open the Fallout 3 folder and select the fallout.ini file.

3. In the fallout.ini file, find the following line: bUseThreadedAI=0.

4. Change this line to read: bUseThreadedAI=1.

5. Add another line after it that reads: iNumHWThreads=2 .

there is no such file. i have looked multiple times.

Look again. Even if you delete it the game recreates a new one each time you launch it, it can't run without it.

It is located in my documents\my games\fallout 3\ NOT in the game folder.
Enable file extensions, otherwise when you change the line Notepad will save it as fallout.ini.txt, not fallout.ini and of course it will not work and the game will continue to use the bad one

So how would I enable file extentions? Sorry im new to this.

mine was called "Fallout_default.ini" just for reference. This happens if you delete the documents version because of a dual hard-drive setup.

Thank you dutch, that fixed the issue, I truly appreciate it, people like you keep PC gaming going. Also I had another freezing issue that was fixed by running as administrator. Thanks again

run in compatibility win XP pack 3 and run on windowed

Even after running the compatibility with windows XP pack 3 as an admin, it didn't work
