Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Skill Points per Level
I got a quick question about gaining skill points. I've seen the formula you get a certain amount per level, but I only seem to be getting skill points on odd levels (level 3, 5 , etc). On even levels I don't even get the option to use skill points. Is that normal?

It is completely normal. There's a way to get it once per level but I cannot recall if it involves one of the SPECIAL levels or a Perk.

I figured it was one perk every two levels, but did not know of skill points too. Thanks.

Well the Skill points are used to gain the perks (perk points). It is kind of complicated.

You should be getting skills and perk every level unless you modded it.

It actaully depends on the Intellegnce SPECIAL stat. Setting it to 8 or 7 on the start, or reaching that point using persk and such usually does it every time for a new game. I have always prioritized agility and intelegence for these types of games that do not require theplayer to shoot everything on sight.

As for the modding...If you used that "Community bug fix" patch...it adds things thand takes liberties with how the system worked. You could take bloodbags from IV stands to get blood capsules...and the patch took that away. I am all for bug fixes, but taking liberties in the guise of a bug patch that alters gameplay...not cool.

Whatever mod you mean, I don't have it, cause I was able to grab blood bags.

Oh yeah..the Ultimate Setup Guide...I don't use it because it alters the gameplay.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what's a blood capsule? I've always just gotten bloodbags from the IV stands.

They are slightly more rare. The game has been patched since Blood Bags did that (jkjk). The blood capsules...then again...the Blood Cap icon looks like a pill in the PipBoy for me....If I find any, I will definitely post a screenshot. I think they were called Blister Packs...but not sure.

The only impact on skill points besides magazines is your intelligence. You should be getting a choice of perk and skill points to use every level. The only barrier is every two levels you get a new set of perks to choose from(If you have the prerequisits for them such as explosives skill for explosives perks, etc.) You should definitely be getting skill points every level.

It's possibly your Intelligence is so low you don't get them every level? As a rule I always have Int at 6 as a bare minimum. Int is so good for levelling up.

Even with 1 Int you should still get 11 skill points every level.

But only get to chose a perk every other lvl.

It's every level unless you have a mod changing the perk rate. NV is every other level. Maybe you're running TTW?
Everyone's Dad™ Jan 28, 2018 @ 3:15pm
I understand that, that with perks it's every other level.
But yeah I should be getting skill points every level, that's true. So I'm not sure why it won't give it to me every level. I do have I believe 7 int. Weird.

Unless your INT is low enough that you're only getting .5 points a level - you should be getting skill points every level. Sorry bud, but you're incorrect.
