Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Crashing during maual save and wandering the wasteland
I have been playing both New Vegas and Fallout 3 with crashing issues. I have spent endless hours watching Mod tutorials and videos to try to get the best setup, within reason, to have a fun a smooth experience in FO3.

My current issue is with the game crashing during manual saving. I do have CASM installed using NMM, and have disabled all autosaves in both vanilla and, the least amount of auto-saves, through CASM. it seems however, sometimes I'll start my modding over by re-installing mods, and the saving issue will be fine-but then the game will crash while wandering the wasteland. It's ALWAYS one of these types of crashes consistently. And they never happen in the same playthrough.

My system is an Alien Alpha running on 64 bit Windows 10. I realize the Fallout series is "buggy", but I have yet to complete either game due to crashes ranging from 10-45 min intervals.

My Mod order is this

I have FOSE, FO3 Edit, as well as GFWL (disabled), the 4gb Patch and the Unofficial FO3 Patch set to my game folder. I use LOOT prior to FO3 Edit to make sure my mods are compatible. I did not download any ENB this time because I really thought those were the issues. I have also tried switching the Falloutexe launcher from Windows Vista to Windows XP service pack 3 (by the advice of another Modder online). And lastly, I tried switching from NMM to FOMM and merging that last patch as a "hail mary" before I decided to give up and ask for help. I do not intend on keeping the merged patch (the one at the bottom of my load order) unless anybody thinks it will help. Advice would be much appreciated.

I also want to apologize if any of my modding terms are off, or the way I posted my load order. I'm a bit new to all this. I've only ever modded NV or FO3.

Thanks

Sorry to say get used to the crashing. I stopped using CASM and all other save mods. I now save manually and the game still crashes once in awhile. The problem is the game engine that can't handle some or a lot of mods. Sometimes the games runs real smooth for awhile and then crashes and other times it's a total nightmare. In other words sooner or later it will crash. PERIOD!

Crashing during saving is due to mods that don't make things that interact with scripts have ther persistant tag enabled, as well as bad cell or worldspace edits. It's a bug that was introduced by an official patch 1.5. Unfortunatly it still peresistes in New Vegas when a mod is made improperly.

To fix this is to: try saving with 1 mod disabled till your able to save without crashing to find out which is the bad one. Then ether disable it, flag it as an esm, or fix the mod yourself by looking at it in the fo3/fnv edit program by looking at the refenced things (in cells or the worldspace) for each script in the mod and make sure they have their presistant flag checked.

Dustin81, I'll try that and go line by line. Marconiex-don't use CASM? I realize these are buggy games, but come on! There are people who can actually play FO3 for 3 hours without crashing. I just want to go 20 minutes.

How often does your game crash? And how are you saving your game, vanilla? Every guide I've read says how bad of an idea it is to do that. But it could be causing problems. I'll try anything at this point.

The bad part about saving is overwritting them, thus people suggest turning off the autosaves and not relying on quicksaves. CASM makes revolving # of new saves automatically or with a hotkey press.
